FAQs about hotels in Gdańsk

Charming Architecture And a Breath of History

Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!

Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.

Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.

While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!

Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.

Having travelled to many parts of Poland in the past I was a little sceptical when our walking tour guide told us Gdansk is the best Polish city to visit I was wrong. The city is a real jewel and well worth visiting, with a rich history, interesting architecture and museums and some great restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend a city break there and a walking tour, along with a river cruise and the WW2 museum.

Old Town is gem so well managed, very clean, plenty of places to get meal,or cup of coffee with cake.So much to visit,my trip was business, but 4 hours walk in Old Town, gave me so much information ,about historical place .I am Polish living in UK 35 years and now very proud what we have and our tradition. Gdansk is a small but beautiful city with a good choice of reasonably priced restaurants. A great place for a romantic weekend strolling along the cobblestoned streets, stopping along to warm up in one of the many cafe's. Just enough sights to keep it interesting, but not so many that you'll be overwhelmed trying to check them all off. If you have time, go to Malbork and see the biggest castle in the world. Many major European cities have regular direct connections, and Gdansk Airport is just a 20-minute taxi ride from the old-city. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Beautiful place with a lot of history. Loved the architecture and old church and cathedral. The place seems to be a real party city at the weekend. But during the week and on Friday it is quite mellow. The public transport seems hit and miss.

Gdańsk is a truly charming city with beautiful houses on every corner of the historic center. Beyond exploring the old town and enjoying the many cozy cafés and restaurants with excellent food, it is definitely worth visiting the European Solidarity Centre to learn more about the city’s important history. A trip to the seaside is also a great idea – you can easily get there by tram.

Beautiful city full of great restaurants with amazing food. The Chleb and Wino restaurant is a must. Gdansk is a city with a very reach history, many historic places to visit. Also it’s very enjoyable to take a short cruise to a beautiful town of Sopot for a day for a Baltic Sea experience.

Clean and spacious apartment includes everything you need for a comfortable stay. Situated in great location - easy access to public transport, shops and cafes. Walkable distance to old town, museums, shopping malls and lots of atractions. Super contact with the owner, quick replies and clear instructions how to get in. The extra bonus is an electric fireplace which was absolutely my favourite part of the evening! I would be more than happy to stay here again while next time in Poland!
