Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!
Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.
While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!

Having travelled to many parts of Poland in the past I was a little sceptical when our walking tour guide told us Gdansk is the best Polish city to visit I was wrong. The city is a real jewel and well worth visiting, with a rich history, interesting architecture and museums and some great restaurants and bars. Gdansk is a small but beautiful city with a good choice of reasonably priced restaurants. A great place for a romantic weekend strolling along the cobblestoned streets, stopping along to warm up in one of the many cafe's. Just enough sights to keep it interesting, but not so many that you'll be overwhelmed trying to check them all off. If you have time, go to Malbork and see the biggest castle in the world. Many major European cities have regular direct connections, and Gdansk Airport is just a 20-minute taxi ride from the old-city. Gdańsk is a truly charming city with beautiful houses on every corner of the historic center. Beyond exploring the old town and enjoying the many cozy cafés and restaurants with excellent food, it is definitely worth visiting the European Solidarity Centre to learn more about the city’s important history. Beautiful city full of great restaurants with amazing food. The Chleb and Wino restaurant is a must. Gdansk is a city with a very reach history, many historic places to visit.
