A Very nice small city, lots to see and many good dining and shopping opportunities. We were lucky to be there during a festival, which provided non-stop entertainment for our two -day stay. Our favorite place in Portugal so far. (We are not big city people, found Lisboa and Porto vexing - crowds, noise, traffic). Barcelos manages to be interesting and charming without the negatives. Barcelos is one of many stunning towns and cities in Portugal, but by far my favorite. The city is beautiful and with a lot of monuments and churches to visit. It also had some pretty interesting shops in a central shopping area and some interesting looking restaurants. From traditional to hipster food- you can find everything there. The day I visited, the city had a huge market in the center, street food and entertainment. There were some traditional music concerts, traditional dancing, flower and light decorations all over... Very pretty. We were only staying one night as walking the Camino Portuguese so it was perfect for an overnight stop. There are plenty of places to eat in the vicinity but there is also a kitchen if you'd rather eat in. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
