Bustling city with plenty of cafes and eateries, slightly off the usual tourist trail. The Castelo de Braganca was well worth a visit. We thought the prices in the city were very reasonable. Watch out if you are using an old satnav - we were directed up a very steep, narrow street which turned out to be a dead end. Cute small Pt town with everything one needs. Beautiful castle and old town. Stayed 3 nights and that was just right for seniors. If we were younger 2 nights would have been enough unless you want to daytrip from that location. Only about 2 hours from Braga and less from Guimaraes. Easy drive without much traffic in September. We ate at Solar and at Rosina. Both recommended. Train museum is small, but free, and really nice, next to Lidl. There is also a Castanha/Marron (chestnut) store with everything chestnut and a small free museum downstairs. You can grab a bite to eat too. I had a pastel de castanha (chestnut egg custard tart) and castanha icecream. Both good. we bought some jams and spreads and some gifts for Christmas to bring home.Guest review byK.D.7Portugal - 8.0

Braganca has a proud and interesting history actively promoted by local businesses and officials. Unfortunately we arrived late on Saturday and left Monday so couldn’t explore the shopping scene. We didn't go into the castle but the walls and outside were very impressive, You can walk along the top of the walls with no restricgtion and a whole community is housed within them which is rare to see. The city is very clean and tidy, with lots of very nice places to eat. The castle is very well preserved, with a Military museum in one of the towers. One of the reasons we drove to Bragança was to see the Graça Morais art exhibition - she is one of Portugal's best contemporary artists, and she lives and works in Bragança - it was very good! Just north of the city, the Montesinho National Park has plenty of wilderness for trekking, biking and road trips.Guest review byAndrePortugal

The family room really had a lot of beds (1 double and 3 small), one of them was separated by courtains. So it is really possible to accomodate a big family in one room which for that money is a good deal. Breakfast was very basic, even more basic than in other cheaper hotel I visited in Bragança a week earlier. Here you will not get brioche and selection of jams: just normal bread, 1 jam and butter, cheese and ham, orange juice, coffee and milk.
