History and Sandy Algarve Beaches
With a long and rich history, Lagos is nowadays a famous beach resort of the sunny Portuguese region of Algarve. Including wide sandy beaches and quiet coves enclosed by ochre cliffs, it also offers a lively city centre with one of the best mixes between history and modernity in the region.
King Henry the Navigator chose it as a base for his trips of discovery during the 15th century, and later on, it became the residence of the Algarve governors. The Old Town is circled by medieval walls, typical narrow streets, historic buildings and charming squares. Apart from being an important centre for sailing, the city has amazing beaches, like Meia Praia or Praia da Dona Ana. Lagos has everything you need for a relaxing AND adventure vacation. We took the MUST do boat ride to see the cliffs from the water. Oh then there were the electric bikes that took us, with a guide, up and over and down breathtaking views. An excellent place with an interesting history, as is the case with all Faro cities, but what really stands out is how friendly the people are. The town is quiet and very safe. There are numerous nearby beaches with fantastic views, perfect for anyone who enjoys swimming. Transportation is convenient, with both buses and taxis connecting to other cities.
