Food, Fado and Fun in Lisbon

Facing the Tagus River and built on seven hills, charming Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. It offers unique tram rides, intimate Fado performances, great dining venues and much more.

The city is famous for its districts: the Belém's famous monuments; the Alfama's labyrinthine streets, bars and small shops; and the trendy Alcântara's docks. Lisbon’s most popular nightlife and shopping venues are located in Bairro Alto, while the traditional heart of the city beats rhythmically in the Baixa.

Enjoy a walk in the greenery of Jardim Botânico, admire the architecture of the Jerónimos Monastery or explore Feira da Ladra flea market. The Chiado area serves the city's best traditional Portuguese food. No meal is complete without some famous pastéis de nata!

Getting to the city centre is only a metro or bus ride from Lisbon Portela Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel, a friendly guesthouse or a cosy apartment, Booking.com has plenty of accommodations for your holiday in Lisbon.

Lisbon has changed a lot since i first visited in the early 90s. Now Lisbon has a variety of 5 stars hotels, international acclaimed restaurants and shops that would envy London, paris and New York, besides being a lot less expensive them most European cities, Lisbon still offers top quality entertainment and services. Breath taking sight seeing and with small trips you can visit nearby cities such as Fatima, Sintra and Comporta and have a bit of everything.

Lisbon is nice city to "go around" and almost at every corner you find something interesting to see. There is sea and beach, hills, small streets, plenty of nice restaurants. I took a cooking class to prepare Pastel de Natas at Compadre Cooking School. That was one of the highlights of my stay. My accommodation was close to tram line 28, so I took several rides with this tram that is one of the top attractions in the city. I can recommend to use daily pass for public transportation and if you have several days, it pays off to buy train ticket for some day and visit e.g. Cascais or some other cities close by to see beach and marinas.

We did a lot of walking over 5 days and felt we got to see some really interesting sites and had some wonderful meals at a variety of restaurants. We found the hills, cobblestones and narrow sidewalks challenging at age 72. But, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Beautiful city, but be prepared to get your steps up!

Beautiful city, but be prepared to get your steps up! Very hilly, so taking advantage of the public transport system is a must. The Lisboa card is good value for money, however they don’t tell you that it doesn’t guarantee entry to popular sites (if tickets sell out). Some sites are also slightly discounted, rather than free with the card. Definitely worth taking the ferry to Cacilhas to watch the sunset!

    Beautiful and interesting old city.

Beautiful and interesting old city. LOTS of hills, some of them steep. We didn't use the trolleys, but lots of people did. Tons of restaurants, good food and clean bathrooms. It's a city worth seeing.

One of the best stays I have had for a 5 stars hotel! The hotel offers basically everything you need: rich breakfast, great facilities, quite and elegant rooms, quality cleaning service, good location, and really good restaurant within for luxurious dinner. Above all, the service in this hotel was exceptionally good. Maybe the best I have seen. Considering the price we paid, I highly recommend it!

The perfect location to explore Lisbon. A 3 stars hotel super clean, quiet (despite the very central position), really well conceived and with small treats of a 5 stars. Breakfast was great: high quality, variety and attentive service.
