Staying at this hotel exceeded my expectations. I am most impressed with the staff. During our stay we decided to leave the city and spend a couple of days on the beach. The lady at the reception, Sara Fundo, made numerous phone calls (on a Sunday!) and organized a swap between Pestana Hotel in Lisbon with Pestana in Alvor for a couple of nights, without us paying a cent. Overall, the hotel is very clean and well maintained. As I already mentioned, the staff is exceptional. The location is great, right in the center of the city and close to numerous landmarks.

The hotel is located within walking distance from some very important historical landmarks (the Lisbon Cathedral, Saint George's Castle, the National Pantheon, the Rua Augusta Arch, etc.) and quite close to the main Rossio square. You have quite a lot of restaurants nearby, although transportation around Alfama (other than a couple of trams, including the historical 28E, and a bus to the castle) is relatively scarce. However, it wasn't an issue to get around on foot. While the hotel is in a very touristic area, the rooms are very well soundproof and you won't be bothered by the noise on the busy streets around. I'd say the rooms are about the right size (not too big, not too small), really comfortable, squeaky clean and the breakfast at the hotel was very good (quite a lot of options). The welcome gift (custard tarts, Ginja liqueur and a hand painted tile) were a lovely detail. To top it all off, the personnel was incredibly kind and helpful. Every single one of them. I think it is the best hotel I've have stayed in so far! If you are planning to go to Lisbon, you can't go wrong with them.

Everything. Everybody was so polite. It was my husband's birthday and they saw date of birth during check in and they suprise him with nice note, cake and champagne in our room. Every day new bottle of water, coffee and small pralines. They think about every detail. Also location is great, not so crowded street but you can easily walk to many attractions. Metro station is 4 mins walk.

I love the jazz night, as a solo traveler it’s great to have some entertainment actually within the hotel. Location is a walk away from some of the sights, but I loved this as I was able to see more of the city and get my steps in. Love the decor of the rooms, usually stay in The Hoxton in city’s like this, but have to say, this was better. The cool touches of the radio and the free bottle of wine shows how customer focused they are in making your stay pleasurable.

FAQs about hotels in Lisbon

Food, Fado and Fun in Lisbon

Built on seven hills facing the Tagus River, charming Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. It showcases unique tram rides, intimate Fado performances, great dining venues and much more.

The city is famous for its districts: Belem's famous monuments; Alfama's labyrinth of streets, bars and small shops; and trendy Alcantara's docks. Lisbon’s most popular nightlife and shopping venues are in Bairro Alto, while the traditional heart of the city beats rhythmically in Baixa.

Enjoy a walk through Jardim Botanico, admire the architecture of the Jeronimos Monastery or explore the Feira da Ladra flea market. The Chiado area serves the city's best traditional Portuguese cuisine. No meal is complete without the famous pasteis de nata!

Getting to the city center is only a metro or bus ride from Lisbon Portela Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel, a friendly guesthouse or a cozy apartment, Booking.com has plenty of accommodations for your vacation in Lisbon.

Lisbon holds dozens of places that tells you the history since the dawn of the region up to today’s era. Their Lisbon Card is a steal as it grants you access to dozens of museums for free. It’s architecture complements a unique sight around the Tagus river. Portuguese culture is quite rich when it comes to food & drinks, with so many options to delight yourself that one week might not be enough. Be sure to try the ginjinha or some wine bar like the Tipsy Turtle Lisbon for a great time. The city is quite well adapted to tourism, with good transport around all the metropolitan area. The Lisbon Card equally allows you to travel around easily without worrying. Some busy areas lack a bit of better care, which is unfortunate but does not impact the journey at all. It is a great destination to explore at your own pace, just be ready to walk and specially to face dozens of uphill walks as the city is quite uneven.

I recommend, definitely the tile museum, fado performances, walks around the city, not only the centre but also the part where there are a lot of Art Nouveau buildings. Disappointing was the visit to the Hieronymus Monastery - a lot of hassle to get there, and inside just a half-hour walk through the cloisters. But the biggest disappointment was the MAAT modern art museum. Apparently there is another one I didn't get to.

Terrific atmosphere and wonderful cobblestone streets to walk through. Excellent restaurants featuring authentic Portuguese cuisine (if you are careful to avoid the tourist restaurants). Lots of historic buildings to see and enjoy throughout the city. The Metro is clean, safe and efficient. Be aware it is a very hilly city, so be prepared for some uphill walks. I'd also recommend Porto with the same features but smaller.

Lisbon is a very interesting city to visit, with great history of exploration and technological leadership spanning 1500-1800s. If you enjoy this history, you will like the museums (Tile and Maritime) and the many monasteries and convents from the era to tour. The are many tourists here, and that can be overwhelming in some locations, and the cruise ships can make this even worse. Come during the off season. We loved our day trip to Sintra with a guide and the convent of Graca and the convent/Tile museum, they were stunning.

A lovely vibrant city with much to see, although the crowds for us were too big and frantic in places, and the Yellow tour bus was a huge disappointment. We were also ripped off by the taxi from the airport, over charging us by three times. Advice is to use Uber or Bolt over there. Great Bus network and lots of fab restaurants.

If you prefer to avoid crowds try: the Museum of Lisbon and the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum both near Campo Grande, the Fernando Pessoa museum, in Campo Ourique. Explore neighbourhoods like Campo Ourique. Visit the riverfront and the Parque Naçoes, later in the afternoon/before sunset. Ride a bicycle along the dedicated riverfront (flat) path. Go to one of the Miradouras early in the morning for sunrise, at which point, if you really want to ride the tram, you will be one of only a handful of passengers. And do not miss an evening in Parque das Floras, surrounded by cafés, restaurants and bars, in a beautiful park, around a fountain with other residents of the neighbourhood, especially on a weekday.

Although it was only for one night, it was a very comfortable room and the hotel has the best facilities I've seen in Lisbon so far. The breakfast buffet is top notch and the location is excellent, across from Oriente subway and train stations, next to Vasco da Gama shopping mall. What else could you ask for? This is definitely the place I am choosing for the next visit to Lisbon. I forgot to add that is only two subway stops away from the airport. Very convenient.

Everything went well. The hotel, accommodation and the staff were superb. I travel a few times a year and usually stay at the best 5 stars hotels. The stay at this one greatly exceeded my expectation. This was our first trip to Lisbon, Portugal and I have to say that my wife and I had a great stay. We do plan to visit Portugal again and do plan to stay at Lapa Palace hotel again.
