Monchique is a beautiful region, be sure to travel all around it to see all the beautiful sites and areas. Fresh air in the mountains and a very peaceful area. A great place to hike and take in the views. Don’t forget to visit the convent and take a stroll through the old village. The thermal spa resort is a nice visit as well. A beautiful Roman Spa town set high in the hills above the Algarve; the hotel we stayed in was part of the spa which has been bought by an ambitious hotelier who has yet to improve all the buildings to a satisfactory standard. The signage at the hotel is woeful we spent the first two hours of our visit completely lost. Monchique is a pretty little town in the mountains, with quiet cobbled streets, boutique shops and wonderful cafes. The new Velochique Cafe is amazing. The area is dotted with incredible trails for walking and cycling and is a great place to stay for a quiet night but still close enough to the Algarve to visit during the day. Silves is a wonderful nearby historic town with an 11th century fort and more wonderful shops and restaurants. Monchique has a good mid sized supermarket that caters for all your needs too. It is in the complex with the thermal spa, wonderful outdoor bar, outdoor courtyard, and I have a boy lush Forest did ravine and the breakfast were incredibly full on with scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit toast cereal yogurt coffee etc. the staff is exceptionally accommodating, the occasionally only spoke Portuguese.
