Porto is a great city to visit as it is very scenic, has a good transport system and is easy to walk around. There are interesting places to view and a plentiful supply of coffee shops, restaurants and bars serving a variety of food a drink. The transport system is reliable and inexpensive providing good value for money. The three day tour card allows for travel from and to the airport and around the city using the Metro, trams and buses for 16 euros. I found public transport difficult to understand. I am used to London and I have used other cities metro systems. Porto's zone system is bonkers. The official website is almost useless, even for a native English speaker. Apart from that we loved Porto and had several excellent restaurant meals. We chose the restaurants at random, the overall standard seems high. We booked 1 trip to wineries in the Douro valley with Viator. Fabulous city, and great for a city-break but as there's a beach nearby it's also possible to combine the city with a day at the beach, or in a beach bar. Loads of historic buildings and monuments to visit. Do a walking tour to get your bearings. Yes, it's hilly but there are ways around that - buses, funicular, lifts, taxis, etc. The urban/suburban (CP) train system is great with many trains going direct to from Sao Bento - we took a day trip to Braga, and a separate trip to Aveiro, both also worth visiting and we didn't have to change trains at Companha (and if you're from the UK the rail fares are cheap). Many great restaurants in Porto but some you'll need to book in advance (24-48 hours), though the Time Out food hall by Sao Bento station is open without bookings.Guest review byGillianUnited Kingdom - 8.0
