Perfect location for exploring the High Tatra mountains. Very close to restaurants and attractions. Our top tips for attractions within half an hour drive from Smokovce: - Bachledova TreeTop walk - Walk around Strbske Lake - Strednica Parking Photo Point. FREE. A hidden gem. Best views of the Tatra Mountains. Walk down to the 2 lakes. - Hrebienok funicular and Ladovy Dom (this was closed for maintenance but we heard great things about it). Top tip for the most overrated and expensive attraction (i.e. not recommended): Mount Lomnicky Stit cable car by Tatranska Lomnica (we got a return ticket to Skalnate Pleso). Stary Smokovec is a lovely small town along the Electricka. Its clean, quiet and lovely. It is a perfect starting point for Slavskovksy Stit hike or through Hrebienok you can have Teryho Chata, Priecna veza, Zbojnicka chata trip within a day. For a post-hike refuel, i warmly suggest to have a Gazda burger in Pizza and Burger Vana. They have a several comfortable seats outside, its quick and tasty. Good starting point for trips to Strbske pleso, Tatranska Lomnica or Hrebienok. I like the dark beer at the tram station buffet. I always have lunch in Bistro Smokovec in the main street, it's a cafeteria style, but very good choice and delicious dishes.Guest review byPetrCzech Republic - 10

What a lovely town but be aware it is at the base of the mountains so if like me you live in a flat part of the world then after a few walks around the area your calf muscles are going to feel it haha. Actually this has helped me want to get a little fitter. Most of the shops are selling expensive Ski brands of clothing as you would expect but the Co Op food store is wonderful and you are spoiled for choice when it comes to eating out - with Spitz being our favorite. The funicular is a must, the Grand Hotel has a wellness that can be reserved and the towns train station is right on your doorstep and the trains are comfortable, clean and modern and amazingly cheap.Guest review byJohnHungary
