The location was good. The host was super helpful, he picked us up from another facility when we called him. We stayed at family room and the room was clean. The beach was beautiful and there were restaurants nearby. You can get water, kayak and play pool for free. The vibe was calm and authentic.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The staff are absolutely incredible, they are so friendly and really made us feel welcome and at home. The facilities on site are wonderful, the pool is perfect and you can walk right out onto the gorgeous clean and sandy beach from the hotel. Breakfast was really lovely too with both a Thai and American style option available and cooked to order. We rented a moped from the hotel for the day for 250 baht which was super convenient and essential for getting around the island. On my last evening here I soaked up the stunning twilight hour on the beach with one of the furry and friendly hotel residents which was delightful! The staff could not have done any more for us, they were amazing and even helped us arrange a boat and taxi for our next stop to Koh Kood! I would highly recommend Makathanee Resort to all travelers to Koh Mak, whether you are solo, a couple or family. Incredible value for money!

The location is unreal! It’s totally away from the huddle and bustle, perfect for us and wanting to be in a tranquil escape. It was so peaceful listening to the waves and birds at night and mornings. It’s a small complex so always plenty of deck chairs and places to sit and not many guests. Feels like a prefect private place to have a break. The owners are so passionate about giving you a perfect stay. They collected us from the pier and dropped us off. When we arrived we had a fresh coconut and mango sticky rice. Our room was very large, great working new air con too. Shower was powerful and hot. They went above and beyond more times than we could count we extended our stay once there as it was so perfect. From free coffee, breakfast, free kayaks, they arranged scooters for us and helmets too, advised us places to go. It was just so perfect! We will definitely be back. After all that and more they even gave us a small gift as we left. Thank you

Koh Mak is quite small but beautiful and has a lot of nature. Good kick-boxing school. Variety of good eating places Koh Mak seafood being one of them. It is far more relaxed than Koh Chang with less to do but I actually found the peacefulness and serenity more alluring. The people are friendly and it has a up early sleep when the sunsets kind of vibe but also if you want to be out later you can. There are some very picturesque beaches and bars. Also a variety of takes on food By the sea has great sandwiches etc. If the weather turns bad then this is when the boredom may be an issue. However I loved the thunderstorms and lightening shows. Best I had ever seen.

After researching on Google satellite I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Much lusher and more tourist-friendly than I expected. Though it's a small island, there's enough there to explore more than we could in 3 nights. And it is the ideal launching site to visit the famous diving and snorkeling sites around Koh Rang island. Five nights would be adequate, unless you're a snorkeling/diving addict, then maybe more.

Very small island which is still kind of rural and not very touristy. That also means that there are not many amenities or fun things you can do. Accommodations are more basic, food or bar options are limited, and you've seen all of the island in a few hours. But you can also have a perfect chill time without any noisy tourist crowds or big loud party areas. Beaches are great. If you want more action, just take the ferry to Ko Chang (once a day).

Really nice and chill island, it's laid back and a great place for a break but you can also do activities such as snorkeling and diving. There's not loads to do but it's exactly what we were looking for, a little island paradise. Plenty of restaurants but not many bars. A day trip to Koh Kham is an absolute must! "The Ball Cafe" and "Pak Pak Vegan" are great cafés. Try "M.A. Bistro" for upmarket dinner or "Khun Mam's Kitchen" for an authentic Thai meal.

Makathanee was a great place to stay at Koh Mak. We came directly to the pier from Koh Chang, got into the spacious bungalow quickly and enjoyed our time here with an amazing view to the ocean. Close by shops, restaurants and massages (walking distance only minutes). Hotel booked a snorkeling trip for us with only 6 guests which was great. Also nice private beach, also to go for longer walks in both directions. However, a scooter rental is helpful to see also other areas of the island.

An absolutely brilliant stay! Myself and two friends stayed here for a relaxing 3 days and everything we could want from a resort was here. The bar at the end of the boardwalk is a perfect spot for a cocktail and a relaxing swim. We were able to rent motorbikes on site which was very handy. I also made use of the boat ride to the nearby island of Koh Kham - definitely recommended.
