The city of Nakhon Pathom is a nondescript Bangkok satellite. It's congested, badly planned, and littered with architectural eyesores, the most tedious of which is an ugly, bulbous chedi in the central area. In contrast, the province of Nakhon Pathom can be quite charming, particularly along the riverbanks and khlong-side areas. Even so, for most tourists, Nakhon Pathom is best understood as a midway point between Bangkok and more interesting provinces of western and southern Thailand.Guest review byIntermittent TravellerUnited Kingdom - 8.0
There are a few highlights to check out, but not many.
There are a few highlights to check out, but not many. Wat Samphran (aka Dragon Temple) is worth the viewing. It's free, though donations of 20 baht of more are appreciated. Don Wai Floating Market is an excellent, local market (re: not many tourists) -- though not technically a "floating market", more of a riverside market. Very nice to spend a couple of hours walking through it, shopping, trying all the food. A good market to get lost in :) There are one or two other very nice-looking temples as well with a 20 minutes radius of the main area of Samphran. Haad Sai Khao is a man-made beach, with a lagoon, equipment rentals, food booths. Expesically nice to visit if they are hosting a festival. Other than those things, however, Nakhon Pathom isn't exactly a beehive of activity. Perhaps a good stopover for a day or two on your way to somewhere else.Guest review byKenThailand
