We liked staying away from the main tourist centre at Goreme. Nevsehir (Nar) is convenient and you have more local amenities such as supermarkets, local restaurants etc. It’s not as picturesque as Goreme/ Uchisar, more functional, but the little village of Nar is pleasant. The hotel is in Goreme. Goreme has spires of rock (volcanic tuff) that have had homes carved into them for 500 years. There's a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Goreme was a great town but a 20/25 minute taxi drive away. We had our balloon ride from there which was excellent. The whole area is a beautiful sight, absolutely breathtaking. Our whole trip was spoiled by our hotel accommodation. Yes, we chose a cave hotel but with deluxe accommodation, balcony, dining area and we expected a window to look out of to actually see the beautiful views of the valley. We went to Neveshir to do the balloon ride. We booked for a week to give us the best opportunity of having a great weather day for the experience, giving up Istanbul as a travel destination. New, very clean, beautifully decorated. Run by a very nice Turkish family. The fact that it was not in Göreme itself for me was an advantage. Calmer and less of a tourist trap. And if you like visiting or going for a meal in Göreme there is a frequent bus next to the hotel. Omar also helped us to rent a car and book our trip to the airport. It has a rooftop restaurant and a lady who prepares the breakfast is very kind. The room was spacious and clean. Ideal if you have a car rented out. You have to travel at least 20 minutes to get gerome for the sight seeing. Hot air balloons are around 4.30am!!
