We go to Desert Hot Springs for the mineral water. The place we stayed last was great, but there's nothing to write home about in the town. In fact it feels a bit unsafe to go out at night. Desert Hot Springs itself is not the best area.
Desert Hot Springs itself is not the best area. There was lots of closed shops and litter everywhere. It is an ideal base to explore the wider area of Joshua Tree, Jacinta State Park and the surrounding canyons and El Morocco is a great.place to stay. Desert Hot Springs is economically depressed compared to nearby Palm Springs. We stayed New Year's week, and a couple of the restaurants we had thought we'd try were still closed for the holidays. We selected Desert Hot Springs for the natural thermal water (apparently only one hotel in Palm Springs has genuine from-the earth hot water, but most in Desert Hot Springs do). If that's not important to you, stay in Palm Springs. We did two amazing hikes in the Indian Canyons near Palm Springs.Guest review byRichardUnited States - 8.0
