A great little town with several really good places to eat. The only negative is the road up into the Yellowstone park is NOT a fun drive. It is narrow, steep and twisting with poorly banked curves - much of it 15mph. We love Gardiner due to the proximity of it to Lamar Valley...
We love Gardiner due to the proximity of it to Lamar Valley and wildlife viewing. It's less busy / touristy than West Yellowstone. Getting around is very easy. Wonderland Cafe & Lodge is one of my favorite restaurants of anywhere. So good that we end up having dinner there each night. Great location for the north entrance into Yellowstone National Park. Getting around is easy with no rush traffic. There are plenty of business for alternative activities, such as horseback riding, ziplining, and white water rafting. No fine dining. Limited local food options with a limited menu. The last time we stayed near Yellowstone, we rented a place...
The last time we stayed near Yellowstone, we rented a place in West Yellowstone. West Yellowstone is too touristy and overpriced. Gardiner was a welcome relief, and the location is much closer to Mammoth Hot Springs and the North entrance to the Park. The Northern entrance is much closer to the wildlife in Lamar Valley, and during winter the only accessible road to Yellowstone is the Northern route from Gardiner to Cooke City.Guest review byPhilstersUnited States - 8.0
Gardiner is a small town and very walkable.
Gardiner is a small town and very walkable. Great after a long car ride sightseeing in the park. The couple of restaurants we tried were good. The Yellowstone Perk, great coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Service was warm and friendly. Dinner at Wonderland Cafe, twice. Good options excellent and service good. Definitely need a reservation.
