FAQs about hotels in Honolulu

A True Water Sports Paradise

Standing proudly on the island of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean, Honolulu is the Hawaiian capital, meaning "a sheltered bay." Spreading along the white sandy beaches and supported by the strong back of the volcanic mountains, it's a real island paradise.

Honolulu's most popular and famous district, Waikiki, features the stunning Waikiki Beach decorated with hundreds of surfboards, palms and lounge chairs. It’s also a center for the city’s nightlife and shopping, especially along Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues.

As the most popular activities in Honolulu include surfing, snorkeling, canoeing and other water sports, it's no surprise the city has a number of sandy beaches. Try Hanauma Bay, a crescent-shaped beach with rolling, green hills behind it.

For fans of hiking and exploring, nature awaits at Diamond Head Mountain, a volcanic tuff cone where you can admire the panoramic view of the city. There is also the Bishop Museum with the world’s largest collection of Hawaiian and Pacific artifacts and the Waikiki Aquarium with over 490 species of marine fauna and flora.

From hotels near Honolulu International Airport to hotels near the beach, Booking.com has plenty of properties, from cheap to luxury, for your Honolulu trip.

As an elder who grew up in Honolulu and returning after a decade abroad, I noticed that the culture has been watered down even more than I remember before leaving. Covid was probably the death knell of a previous vibrant economy. So sad. I see homeless who are obvious throwaways from other US states with their weird, crazed body motions (auwe!), a government that bends too much to negative forces but not enough to protect the survival of the local population. I left with a heavy heart, a little traumatized, but with deep love of my birth land and resolve to come back after I find a way to stay.

The shopping was great. Lots of great places to eat. Dukes, Monkey Pods, the Paia Fish market, take the Waikiki trolleys and Lyft to get around. Any of the Outriggers would have been a good location. Do the catamaran.

We only spent one night in Waikiki area, but it was considerably busier than the many other places we've been around the islands. Reminded me of Shibuya or Osaka (also in part due to affluence of Japanese tourists). We didn't visit many amenities but the beach at Waikiki was quite packed, even though we went there around 8 AM on a Monday in September (three lines of parties at all times). No major complain but not exactly the impression/expectation of the islands.

I think the biggest thing was the cost - the prices of food and general goods have tripled since our last visit most people we spoke to said the same - I would say the visitor numbers were down possibly due to this - tours and experiences were expensive - the locals also said the same how they are struggling to live day to day. The plastic used in Hawaii was excessive - there was nothing environmental about the place at all I did see some wildlife with lost legs and one bird had fishing twine and a bead wrapped around its leg - the poor thing was shivering but unfortunately I couldn't help it.

Excellent location. Easy access to many attraction by walking or nearby bus routes with very cheap fairs. Close to the hustle and bustle of Waikiki at reasonable tariffs considering the closeness to the main strip. $1.25 bus trips for seniors saved us a lot of money getting to places like Pearl Harbor which I personally visited on three occasions. Plenty of excellent food venues close to the hotel which is probably why the in house restaurant doesn't try too hard to compete but it is there if you don't feel up to a five minute walk

Brilliant location, only a few minutes walk from central Waikiki. Lovely friendly staff who made us feel really welcome. Clean rooms with lovely modern decor. Comfy bed, nice pool area and high quality restaurants downstairs. They made a big deal of us as we were visiting for both our wedding and honeymoon- flowers everywhere, complimentary wine and room upgrade and towel swans! Also significantly cheaper than some of the bigger chain hotels in the area, and with way more Hawaiian character about it.

Great service, super friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, car rental just across the road, walking distance to many restaurants and shops, only 2 blocks away 10 min walk to Waikiki beach. 5 min walk to a bus stop to go to Ala Moana, Diamond Head, Waikele Premium Outlet , Perl Harbor and many more. Huge room for Hawaii for a price of a smaller room in other hotels in Waikiki area, full size fridge, good size TV.

Convenient for short stay in Honolulu with early morning flight, has a good shuttle service that will pick up on demand and departs hourly for the airport. There is a public bus stop across from the hotel that will take you to Ala Moana and Waikiki but it takes a while. A good variety of eating options nearby.
