We should have known that Lake Placid would be full of tourists. This is not our favorite type of destination, but it was a convenient stopping point as we returned to Ohio from Canada. The Adirondacks are beautiful and there are many hiking trails to explore in the area. If we were in this area again, I would stay in Saranac and drive to the parts of the Adirondacks I am interested in. It is a less touristy town, but still offers good dining and hiking options. What we appreciated about the Devlin was that it was not fancy and was located on the edge of town. If you like Gatlinburg, you'll love Lake Placid.Guest review byGlenUnited States - 10.0

I was just passing thru on my way back from Quebec.
I was just passing thru on my way back from Quebec. But the town is very nice. They've hosted two Olympics here and it's probably a lot more popular in the winter (I was there in early October). We wanted a short vacation with some sightseeing.
We wanted a short vacation with some sightseeing. The drive to the top of Whiteface Mountain and the view/structures at the top should not be missed. We visited John Brown's Farm also and learned so much about his and other locals efforts to help the slaves.
