Madison is a lovely quaint town, at least, judged by the shops lining out the main street. The small business Shop owners seem to be very friendly and don't mind spending extensive time with the customers. One can engage into extended conversation with shop owners and one would feel treated as "guest of honor". We only ate at the Café Alegre and we thoroughly enjoyed the foods on the menu and the interaction with our servers. The finding of parking around when going shopping was a fairly easy experience. The Hammonasset Park and Beach are pleasant for a day at the beach (heck, for many days at the beach if your thing is just basking in the sun), and for walking/bicycling around. All in all it was a pleasant experience. We'd be going visiting from time to time; if you're used to a great variety of entertainment and culinary options and to a 24 x 7 access to both, the small town of Madison might NOT fully meet your expectations for a long stay, say, a week or two. It definitely won't disappoint for a long weekend. But, if you're more family oriented, have kids, and can deal with restaurants pretty much closing after 10PM and with no "night life" then the town will meet your expectations in spades. :)
