There are parts of Meridian that feel unsafe. I've been there 4 times now. Since I'm only staying one night at a time, I don't feel like spending a lot on the hotel. It was close to a restaurant and gas station but the facility was dirty, the sheet was stained and the carpet was dirty with lots of stains. The carpets in the hotel were old and stained! Downtown Meridian is making a comeback and will continue. Maybe 40 businesses both shopping and restaurants. Safe in the day and night. Very walkable and visit the Music Center.
