A very homey town, charming and quiet.
A very homey town, charming and quiet. There are several nature reserves nearby for migrating sandhill cranes and other birds, and a Crane Festival if one comes at the right time. I went to the Great Sands Dunes National Park, which is beautiful and novel. I ate with relatives, but there are nice restaurants nearby for dining, and my locals enjoy their menus. The hotel sits at a crossroads for easy access to any direction, and mountain access is all around, which includes skiing, hiking, rockhounding in old mines, and scenic drives.

We only stayed for one night but I liked that the room we stayed in, didn't have any odors, like cigarette smells, or humidity smells. The room was very clean. But the thing I liked the most was that Monte Vista Movie Manor, is away from major streets, so noise was not an issue there during the night. The ladies in charge were very friendly and respectful. The morning we checked out, we showed up to the dinning area very close to closing time, but the lady in the front office (and I don't remember her name, I am sorry) was very kind to let us have breakfast, even offer to cook more eggs for us! She didn't rush us out at any moment, so we were able to eat our breakfast well past the closing time, so I thank her for this kind gesture.

Came for the Crane Festival but weather kept the cranes away. Enjoyed the artisan market and touring the surrounding area. Also made a trip to the Great Sand Dunes NP. The people in town and at the hotel were nice and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the small town feel. It was a good choice other than Alamosa just down the road. I enjoyed my stay.

We went to the 40th Sandhill Crane Festival which was very well run and organized and we had a wonderful time there. The town is cute; they ( Main Street) are trying to revive it and the little main square is good for food and drinks and quite festive with outdoor lights and street seating. It was looking lovely for the festival and very clean. Lots of crane street art which was lovely to look at. Everything is central to where the Festival was held. The mountains are beautiful and the skies amazing. Lots of bird life. Lovely friendly people. The old historic hotel was recommended to me, and was very reasonably priced, but we did not enjoy our stay there. It is a lovely old building and will need a lot of work to get it back to its former glory days. A good clean is needed and some old decorations could be taken down to improve the general look inside. The very old elevator is out of order; the bar and restaurant. were closed. ( which I did know about before my stay). A simple breakfast is served and included in the room price. The owner is very nice and helpful. Safe parking at the back of the hotel.

We were just passing thru as a place to stay close to the Sand Dunes Didn't seem to have much to do here But whatever you do Do not eat at the Dairy Queen Rude employees and we went to take the kids for ice cream and they were open until 10 pm and we got there around 5:30 and were told they shut down the ice cream machines already

Everyone is very friendly and helpful.
Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Believe it or not this small mountain town was open and wore masks. We were in Florance/Mesa Verde the week before and the difference was 1900s vs 2020s! For real tho!

Location was great - right on main street of a small town. A block's walk to several good restaurants. Ten minutes to the crane refuge. The Sand Dunes and Fort Garland are a comfortable drive away. Breakfast was good with a very good selection of options. Service is excellent - room and bathroom are clean.
We stayed Sunday and Monday nights - off nights and the hotel was not busy and very quiet.
