What Guests Said About New York:

I love walking, and usually walk a few miles every day.

I love walking, and usually walk a few miles every day. Manhatten IS walkable if, like me, you are pretty fit, plus it's almost impossible to get lost as it has a very logical grid system. If you're not very fit, then it has a good subway system which I did use from time to time. It also has a bike rental scheme that I saw lots of people using (but can't comment on ease of use as I didn't use it myself.) In my experince I found NYC friendlier than I was lead to believe it would be - I had some great chats with people! I cut my knuckle one day (caught it on something exiting the subway) and a street vendor make a great effort to help me with first aid - making sure I was ok. People being warm and friendly was the norm in my experience. My budget hotel was super friendly (The Carlton Arms - East 25th and 3rd Avenue in Gramercy). There is always something to do and something to see. Just a few of the things I did: I went to a comedy show one night at New York Comedy club (the Midtown venue) - which was great fun! I visited the Met museum (stunning - but make sure you allow at least a whole day) walked the High Line from Hudson Yards (really impressive and FREE), skipped going to the Empire State building and instead opted for The Edge - absolutely stunning views, a MUST. I went into St Patrick's Cathedral - a beautiful building to rival any English cathedral, incredible modern mural that is in keeping with the building. I went to Brooklyn (walked via Williamsburg Bridge) and got the very reasonably priced ferry back to Manhatten. On my last day I went to Queens and had the most amazing Tibetan food in Jackson Heights, and had Kashmiri tea in a little Indian cafe - New York is a truly international city. This was my fourth trip to the US but my first to NYC. I am eager to go again, it really is one of the greatest cities in the world.

We saw so much! A nice combination of walks on our own including Central Park (used subway) and Times Square, etc., a Viator glass-top bus city tour including ferry (water tour) of Statue of Liberty, Broadway show, tour of Empire State Bldg., wonderful meals and drinks. We feel we got to see everything we wanted and more! Loved New York!

New York is expensive, not a particularly easy city to navigate around. You either take cab/Uber or subway or walk. But the various neighborhoods and sights are worth the money spent and effort. You just need to be careful and aware of your surroundings. There are excellent restaurants of all varieties and ambiance. Brooklyn Botanical Garden was wonderful, a must see.

Very nice hotel; although the rooms are small, they are very smart designed; comfortable bed of a good size, toiletries in the room; nice New York view from the window; the absolute highlight of this hotel is its location in the heart of Manhattan – just a 5-minute walk from Grand Central Terminal and the subway, and within walking distance of attractions like Times Square and Empire State Building; very helpful and friendly reception staff – they helped my partner with shopping for my birthday :); great rooftop as well

It is truly in a great location, a stone's throw from Times Square. There are shops, restaurants, Subway Stations, Broadway all so close by and easy walking to other things like the Empire State Building, Rockerfeller Centre, 5th Avenue, Central Park. The rooms were modest but it is midtown Manhattan but clean, comfortable and with great airconditioning and bathroom. Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. I would certainly stay here again and have no hestitation in recommending the hotel.

The Lombardy was perfect for our stay in Midtown Manhattan; spacious rooms for New York, a great little kitchenette, a nice balcony with a table and chairs to have your morning coffee and watch the city wake up. It’s two blocks from Central Park and a short walk to the subway. No surprise charges which I can’t say for all NY hotels. Staff were very nice; we will definitely be back! Thank you for a lovely stay.

The hotel is great, the staff is very polite and well trained, rooms were clean, the hotel restaurant is good and they have an amazing rooftopbar with a view to the Empire State building. Additionally, I believe this to be the best location in Manhattan to stay, not too close to Times Square that it is to touristy, but close enough to do most things walking distance.
