We aren't city people, so the amount of construction and people was a bit overwhelming for us. Some of the major roadways were HUGE and traffic ran fast and the locals were kind of unforgiving if you didn't know which lane to be in. Lots of flooding during heavy rains as it is only like 4 feet above sea level. We were in town to see the USS Wisconsin, as my father served on her in the 50s. The ship was amazing and quite a sight to behold. Aside from that, we didn't really bother with the rest of the city.

Spark Hotel by Hilton was perfect for my 2 nights in Norfolk for business. Spark is CLEAN, Comfortable, 24-hour coffee & tea available in the lobby, bagels & cream cheese, yogurt, and orange juice (cereal & oatmeal too) make a great quick breakfast before heading out for my day. All personnel were friendly and helpful. The beach is just a quick drive 1 mile down the road! I highly recommend Spark!

I lived in Norfolk/Virginia Beach for 40 years before moving...

I lived in Norfolk/Virginia Beach for 40 years before moving to Atlanta. Returning was nice and allowed me to see it with fresh eyes. While Norfolk has some points of interests, especially if you are a military buff or a shopping enthusiast, you've got to head to Virginia Beach for the coolest stuff. VB is a sister city and you will have no trouble getting there to spend some time on the oceanfront. Downtown Norfolk is full of old churches. Closer to the base (Wards Corner area), there are SO MANY thrift stores, so if that's your thing, this is a destination city for you. Be sure to take a trip down to Ghent and 21st Street to see how the 1% live-- and to enjoy the Naro movie theater for indie movies and a participatory Rocky Horror Picture Show on Friday nights. You'll also find some unique eateries and artsy boutiques. If you like books, Norfolk has a ton of used and indie book shops to choose from. Don't miss the Virginia Beach Aquarium. I've seen the Baltimore and Atlanta versions... Virginia Beach has them beat, hands down. While your out that way, stop in at the water park nearby.

It is a very busy area but not hard to get around. There are a lot of amazing things to see and about every choice of dining you could imagine. We only stayed the weekend but would love to come back for a week or two. We were here in the off season but the water and beaches near bye look Great.

The people working there were nice.

The people working there were nice. The place overall was dirty, had carpeting in the hallways that smelled bad and the room I was in was a pet room- which was apparent when the sun came out the next day and you could see all of the scratches on the floor. The coffee machine had not been used in some time, and the water that was left in it smelled. The restaurant / bar was dirty when I went down from coffee (which was horrible too).

Clean room, comfortable bed, lots of amenities and superb breakfast. And all these within a great price range. However, what I liked best was the working personnel. We had an issue because we booked two rooms by accident, and even though we made a non refundable reservation, they still refunded the full price for one of the rooms that we didn't need.

the room was clean and very comfortable. The Staff was courtesy and accommodating. Didn't get a chance to have breakfast had to leave much earlier than expected. The price was affordable and reasonable for such a nice location. Me and my husband will certainly come back again when in town.
