The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was like a religious experience. It was like taking a bath standing up. Best shower experience ever.. The room was decorated nicely with a beach theme. The location was great, had only one row of houses between you and the beach. Also was within a very close walking distance to 2 restraunts. Also liked, that they provided sand chairs to use.

Absolutely loved this hotel and the location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Huge room with very well equipped kitchenette including large fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Handy for us as we were travelling for a few weeks to different locations and had food and drinks with us. Very clean room with table and chairs and balcony with chairs…fabulous view across to the estuary/bay. Very comfortable beds and a lovely bathroom with a huge walk in shower. Our room was a deluxe double with balcony. Plenty of parking either underneath each of the three blocks of accommodations or in the large car park within the grounds. Lovely pool area with a beach in front.. They have regular weekly food trucks and live music. Unfortunately, we didn’t experience this as we were out that particular day during our visit. Set in a lovely, peaceful residential area and a 15-20 minute stroll into town. Southport is a beautiful place to stay with plenty of shops and restaurants whilst retaining a small town feel. There are many parts to the area that have been used in many films and tv shows and the local tourist office has a museum with local history and memorabilia and artefacts from the films, in particular from Safe Haven which is one of the more well known in this area.

Breakfast is served from 6 am to 10 am to accommodate both early risers and those who wish to sleep a little later. The menu consisted of eggs, waffles, cereals (hot or cold), fresh fruit, fresh brewed coffee and tea just to name a few. Breakfast room buffet, tables and chairs were kept very clean.

    We have been to Oak Island about 8 or 9 times and enjoy the beach and restaurants. Close to other towns which have additional shops, etc. Nice location for family get togethers/reunions. Much quieter than places such as Myrtle beach.

    It is a quite, family friendly island.

    It is a quite, family friendly island. The beaches are very clean and great for sitting for hours. There is far more housing on oak island than restaurants or other developments, so it is a great destination if you want to enjoy a quite stay with your family at a beach house. We ate one meal out at the Lonerider brewery that was a lovely experience, especially on a nice day when you can sit outside. Driving around the island was easy, but leaving on a Saturday morning when many are checking out of beach houses brought a lot of traffic.

    Changed a lot since I grew up.

    Changed a lot since I grew up. But still a great family beach. We went to sunrise service on the pier. Exceptional! Played bingo at the Elks Lodge, checked out the other beaches, took in a show at Myrtle. Conveniently located to every thing. Traveled to South Port and Calabash for shopping and great seafood. Don’t forget to check out the seniors center they have homemade treasures to take home for gifts.

    Great location for a relaxing vacation. Quite and friendly. All of the place to eat where great! Salt 64 is a must! Located just 45min away from Wilmington so close enough to enjoy the city for a night or two.

    We love Oak Island.

    We love Oak Island. There are more locals than tourists, not a lot of extra shops but a good choice of restaurants. Shopping is great in Southport and Wilmington if you want to make a day out of shopping.

    Oak Island is a great place to visit but we came to learn...

    Oak Island is a great place to visit but we came to learn that not all parts of the beach are as good as others. We happened to be at a spot where the tide converges making it a little trickier when entering the water and water activities with a risk of undertow. A significant build up of broken shells also made for tricky footing. The island overall offers plenty of activities and is well served by shops and services.
