Saint John is a rural town with not much going on - it's mostly residential, but there's tons of public access trails for snowmobiles, ATVs, and ADV/Dirt bikes. All the action is either out in the deep woods, or an easy 10-15 minute ride into Fort Kent, where there's all the usual services and some decent restaurants.
