FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded on 3 sides by water, it is spread over steep hills that make for great photo opportunities. None better than the zig-zag Lombard Street seen in many a film. Other movie stars are the streetcars plying the hill climbs – a little touristy, but still worth trying.

In the middle of the bay is Alcatraz island, famed for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t fancy going inside, the views towards the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere in San Francisco is life more laidback than on the Pacific beaches. Hire a bike and head out there via the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. The clam chowder served in (yes, actually in!) bread is a delight. Chinatown also has a great selection of good value restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want to stay in apartments along those lines, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something to suit. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here.

Beautiful city and with lots to see and do.

Beautiful city and with lots to see and do. At least, you should stay 4 days and organize what you will do every day. Get a clipper card to move around the city with public transportation, which is organized and clean. My favorite places: Golden Gate Bridge, The Alcatraz tour, The cable car ride, The painted Ladies, Chinatown, The Golden Gate Park, Building Ferry Pier.

Make sure you bring warm clothes even in the summer as it gets really chilly. Ate at Fog Harbor. Food was really good. Went to Oracle Park. Always a good time at the ball park. Walked through the Warf. Always good to take a Cable Car ride. Go to Alcatraz is a must. Have an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista.

Our 2nd time here, nice to stay in a different part of the city. Tried the train, tram and trolley cars as I like to ride public transport with the locals. Sadly noticed a lot more mentally affected people this time not that they bothered me, I never felt unsafe here and would definitely come again. Pretty easy to get around and we were lucky to have great weather, late August, early September.

    What a pleasant stay!

What a pleasant stay! This city is so easy to get around with the BART and MUNI systems. People are so friendly all over. Yes the Tenderloin is not the best, but we never did feel unsafe whatsoever - even in the roughest areas. Very touristy. But this is also what makes you feel a bit safer. Even asking police for directions was enjoyable - they're so friendly and funny!

We loved walking around the area. We felt very safe.

We loved walking around the area. We felt very safe. I would recommend doing some tours right away to get a sense of the city. Some tours are far better than others. We loved eating at Bourdin's. We also enjoyed the Waymo. Download the app and experience a driverless car. Ride the trolley. We toured Muir Woods and Sausalito. Chinatown was fun, look for the place in the alley that allow you to customize and see how fortune cookies are made. Dress in layers this time of year.

The Handlery Union Square Hotel is amazing! It’s right in the heart of Union Square, making it super convenient for shopping, restaurants, and everything San Francisco has to offer. The room was way more comfortable than I expected for an older hotel, and the bed was so cozy. The staff were fantastic—they let us check in early at 10 a.m. and gave us a late check-out at 1 p.m., which I’ve never experienced anywhere else. We stayed for seven days, and everything was great from start to finish. I’ll definitely stay here again!

Location is good either you visit for business or sightseeing. Hotel is close to ferry building with food market, Chinatown and North Beach, all in walking distance. Also area is safe and quiet at nights. Its not sketchy like Union Square or Market Street. You may see few homeless. Hotel offers amenities beyond 3 stars. Room was clean and packed with microwave, fridge and coffee machine. Also there are empty bottles and water dispensers on each floor so you can refill it anytime.

Well-located just around the corner from Union Square and five minutes from the Chinatown area of San Francisco. We enjoyed strolling down to the harbour area (easy once you clear the hill, or take a detour across a couple of blocks where the gradient is less steep!) and this could be done in 35-45 minutes. The service was also very good.

Modern, stylish and spacious hotel. Rooms very comfortable and amazing views. Great check-in team, very helpful. It is in a smart area, a couple of streets away from Chinatown. Much better to stay in this area rather than downtown/Union Square which isn't as nice.

It is a decent and comfortable property, somewhat old fashioned, for those who like the old type hotels. The locarions is excellent for those who prefer tomstay Downtown, close to Union Square. The bed was comfortable.
