FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.

In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

We loved walking around the area. We felt very safe.

We loved walking around the area. We felt very safe. I would recommend doing some tours right away to get a sense of the city. Some tours are far better than others. We loved eating at Bourdin's. We also enjoyed the Waymo. Download the app and experience a driverless car. Ride the trolley. We toured Muir Woods and Sausalito. Chinatown was fun, look for the place in the alley that allow you to customize and see how fortune cookies are made. Dress in layers this time of year.

Yes, with great caution as to personal safety.

Yes, with great caution as to personal safety. The bad can be offset with personal attention to the areas where one goes and what one does when reacting to difficult physical and social circumstances The city offers much to the visitor, especially history, art, science, ... , and a practicle experience in "social justice." The bounds wealth and poverty are experienced and everything inbetween to the caring observer. SF is what it is -- it is a city that Is "trying" to transform itself. One should try to understand what they are observing and experiencing.

Downtown area has cleaned up a lot, compared to few years ago. Much more people at night. Even Union Square felt very safe (and clean) unlike few years back. The city is putting in much needed effort to clean up the downtown area. Would stay away from Tenderloin area though. Ferry building area is hopping as well.

It was cleaner than expected and felt safer than expected...

It was cleaner than expected and felt safer than expected based on news the last few years. We heard that current mayor is trying to get things turned around. There were a lot of empty stores downtown, but shopping was better than expected. Still has some of the great restaurants from our visits many years ago - Scomas, Tadich Grill, Stinking Rose. It is still an interesting and beautiful city in many ways. The transportation to get around is still interesting with cable cars, trolleys and trains, and we felt safe. The hills are a challenge for walking great distances in a hurry. There are so many neighborhoods to explore, each with their own vibe. Loved the Italian area and sought out Graffeo Coffee Roasters, which is great! We had some great coffee at the Bohemian Cigar Store & Cafe. Best coffee ever in the Italian sense. We love the Buena Vista Bar was still there and serves a great breakfast (recommended by firemen) as well as their wonderful Irish coffee. We had a lovely meal with beautiful view and good food at McCormick & Schmick’s at Ghirardelli Square. Magnin Street Cafe & Bistro was a fun find. We ate there 2 evenings. Loved the Bistro Boudin on the Wharf. The food and service were great. Unexpected. Beautiful dining above the bakery area. Serve lunch and dinner. Had a view as well. The weather was almost perfect. Just beautiful in early September!

San Francisco is one of my favorite places to visit but be careful which hotels you choose because there's alot of scammers in the city. The city always has alot of night life for whatever your into. Last trip we enjoyed a black owned restaurant named Minnie Bell's Soulfood Movement which was a excellent choice.

The location of this property was ideal for exploring Union Square and China Town area. Plus easy reach to transport, in fact the trolley was only steps away. High on my priority list for a holiday is a comfy bed and this was the best. The staff are friendly (even gave my daughter chocolates for her birthday). We found the tea/coffee and breakfast pastries a real bonus. Would absolutely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Great hotel in fantastic location and super close to Moscon Center as well as the Union Square and all of the San Francisco interesting locations. There is even free shuttle to Chase Center stopping just by hotel entrance. The crew were all super friendly and helpful. Rooms are big, clean and well equipped. Highly recommended for both business trips and urban vacation.

It's a beautiful property with wonderful staff. And dogs! The location was great....close to Union Square, good shopping, and Swan Oyster Depot (my favorite restaurant). Lots of options around the hotel to hop on BART and explore other areas of the city too! The Naked Experience is the icing on the cake! Best hotel beds EVER!

Is was very clean, the hotel smelled nice. There was a big common area with games and a bar which was very useful since everything closes at 9 in SF. It is very close to everything. I think this is the best location you can get as a tourist in San Francisco
