FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

The perfect city for a tourist- lots of free attractions that are world class. Public transport is good, affordable and easy to use. Eating out can be expensive but you’ve just got to look a bit harder and you’ll find somewhere to suit your budget.

Good areas to stay in - Foggy bottom and Georgetown not too many beggars or homeless. Need 4 days to see sights, Metro is good for getting around and so are the feet. Look for the Good food market - supermarket with hot fresh food options or general supplies.

I love the energy and vibe of the neighborhoods, although this was BEFORE the takeover of the city by the military. I would probably NOT travel there now based on conversations I've had with residents since the military occupation.

Great city, so much to see and a must-see, if you're an American. For international tourists, it's a great sight, pretty expensive, but overall a great city. If budget is not a concern, go for it; if it is, though, it might not be a must-see in terms of other cities in the U.S. as a foreigner.

We love the tours that we took of the We also got to take the engraving and printing of money. We also got to watch them being in the house on the floor, making laws or whatever they do. We have to sit in on that session. Overall, it was a good experience. I would’ve loved to got up closer to the White House. We did have a tour schedule, but it got canceled so hopefully next time we go that we can get that done but all in all we had a good time so we were excited

Where to begin? There is so much to see in this city.

Where to begin? There is so much to see in this city. So much wonderful architecture and rich history of our great country. Museums are just the surface. In our 6 days there we were able to fit in: hop on/hop off bus night tour, Ford's theatre, FBI experience, Arlington cemetery, International spy museum, US Capitol Building, Library of Congress, Washington monument, the People's House, the Pentagon, Kennedy Center, Museum of the Bible, O Museum, National gallery of art, and the National Archives... And, we still didn't see half of what there is to see there. The metro is very efficient, timely, and safe - we used it to get almost everywhere. Wear good shoes and be prepared to walk a lot.

Clean and modern rooms. Yes they are small but who goes to Washington to stay in their room? It is purely somewhere to sleep and shower. Cost about $10 in an uber from Union station. There is a supermarket and a pharmacy across the road. The metro station is a 3 to 4 minute walk away. Approximately 30 minute walk to The Capitol and the same to some nice restaurants (Carmines, Tik Thai). Yes there are some ‘characters’ on the streets but we didn’t experience any issues. First time in a Citizen M hotel but would definitely stay again.

The hotel is old, but clean and maintained. Fridges in the basement and the first floor allow for food storing. The location is off the center (bus services are unreliable, but cheap walking works too), but the area itself is really nice. Very good restaurants in the area.

They cancelled my booking due to a power cut, relocated me, and still charged me despite the new hotel being significantly cheaper. Never answered the phone or replied to emails. Dreadful.
