Pietermaritzburg, once an attractive, clean town, with numerous historic buildings and home to a number of well-established schools, is looking shabby and uncared for. Pietermaritzburg has historic buildings. The architecture is varied and interesting. Though the town center is quite busy, as you move further from town it is quiet and laid back.
