The property is right in the nature, next to a river/waterfall. Beautiful and serene, the outdoor onsen is overlooking to river and autumn color leaves. The best view one can have. The owner picked us up in the station and sent us back to our hiking starting point the next day. He prepared sumptuous dinner and breakfast for us. We feel like visiting an old friend.

This is as good as a Ryokan can get. You are treated like a valued family member and the cottages are historical and charming. The cuisine artfully prepared by very creative Masaya Yashida (a member of the family owning the place for over 400 years) served with love in the room is unique and features a lot of vegetables and other local ingredients. Nothing is too much for them and they offer you all kind of transfers, not only to the train station, but also to departure points of the Nakasendo walk. Value for money is fantastic and I wonder how they do. Best place ever I have been in Japan and in general I do not write reviews.

Everything. The 110 years old house is extremely quaint and comfortable. Nostalgic as well. is so helpful and friendly. 3 min walk from the station. A very cute town to explore around before walking the Nakasendo trail.

Accessible to the Nakasendo trail and some good spots to eat. Our kids liked the novelty of the bunks. Good showers, comfy lounge area in the heart of Nakatsugawa-juku.

The house is beautifully designed and peaceful & tranquil. The bed is really comfortable and the location was great for exploring the area by car or if walking the nakasendo. It is better in person than in the photos, it’s restored in a contemporary way with all of the amenities & a nice mix of traditional Japanese style.
Tommy the host was amazing, he made us feel really welcome and was very helpful.
Would definitely recommend the sushi dinner which he prepared for us.
