We loved everything about our stay. The staff very warmly welcomed us. Our room was big and the futons very comfy. The food served at dinner and breakfast was tasty and delicious. The onsen was wonderful with a beautiful outside area. The location next to historic onsen is also great. They also provided us a free shuttle ride to the Snow Monkey Park (you take the bus on the way back but beware of the schedule because we waited 2 hours to head back to Nagano). Our only regret was that we couldn’t spend one more night at the ryokan. One night was too short.

We had a fabulous two night stay at this brilliant ryokan. The room was large and spacious, in traditional Japanese style. We had dinner in the ryokan both nights and both meals were superb - some of the best experiences we had in Japan. Delicious food, beautifully presented in the lovely dining room and served by the amazing lady who works there (sorry, didn't find out her name). It's located in the lovely little town of Yudanaka and is an easy 15 minute walk from the railway station. Honestly, our stay here was probably the best in our 2 weeks in Japan - a fantastic experience !

We vere blown away by the hospitality of the staff. The food was amazing and beautiful. We had the dinner and breakfast and enjoyed both very much. We tried the onsen in the ryokan and had one also in the room. Super relaxing. We would definitely come back again.

Wonderful owners, felt like home in a traditional ryokan. The owner was kind enough to drop us at the train station early in the morning. Enjoyed the hot spring bath as well Owner is a sweet guy who will give a free ride to Snow Monkey Park as well. He send us off with a lucky charm ribbon

We had an unforgettable stay at Sakaeya, which was our first time in a ryokan. The building, well-located in Shibu Onsen, is large with a few floors and quite a number of rooms, but feels very peaceful and quiet when walking through it. The traditional room was comfortable and spacious, and the staff fantastic. The public onsen in the hotel is clean, modern and large, and we particularly enjoyed the outside area. The dinner far exceeded all of our expectations, and was a highlight of our whole trip in Japan. We found the price to be largely justified by the quality of the amenities, meals and service.
