Staff, rooms, service, onsen all really really impressive. Complimentary pick up from train station was a lovely bonus. We ate dinner there and it was a meal like no other- amazing!

The host is very friendly and he looked after his guest very well. We were picked up from train station on arrival and dropped off on departure. We got a ride to the snow monkey park entrance at the time suit us. The property is amazing, the bedding is comfortable, room is warm and spacious, there is hot water, tea and treats on the tea table. I used the private onsen everyday! What I like the most is the traditional breakfast and dinner, it’s an exceptional dining experience.

Excellent customer service where staff are attentive to your needs at all time. Even offered a new set of yukata when they noticed ours were slightly wet due to slight rain. Onsen was clean, well maintained and not crowded.

The ryokan was recently rennovated so had all the modern amenities (toilets, many powerful heaters etc) while still keeping the tradition charm. 2 internal onsens meant it was convenient to go for a soak any time. The inn owner was super helpful and patient despite some language difficulties. The inn itself is located 3 mins walk from the bus stop so getting to and fro wasn't a challenge. The inn owner also gave us a lift to the snow monkey park and to the train station. Would love to return.

Warm welcome from our hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Great location within walking distance to snow monkey park and local town. Well appointed and spacious villa. Excellent breakfast and dinner, the latter was in the form of a tasting menu so had the opportunity to explore Japanese cuisine that we wouldn't normally opt for. On our second night we had the place to ourselves so it felt very special.

Located in the historical Shibu Onsen district, 渋温泉小石屋旅館 offers both private and dormitory-style guest rooms as well as an on-site restaurant where local dishes, wines and craft beers are available.
