We were delighted with our choice of chambre SIXTIES. We stayed there for 6 nights in May 2023. This beautiful country house is set in its own grounds, away from the ‘madding crowd’. The owners Christine & Laurent are a very charming couple. They live in the property themselves, and rent out one room, on the first floor, reached by ascending the marble staircase to be seen in the photos. The room itself is an excellent size, and has 3 windows overlooking the garden. The bed was very comfortable, with a flat screen TV opposite ( my husband loved that ! ). Super en suite bathroom with a large shower and special non slip floor to it. a comfortable seating area that we used some evenings to have a glass of wine, a French baguette with camembert or pate. If the weather had been a little warmer we would have been able to take our snack supper outside as the owners supply tables/ chairs etc. on the terrace. How lovely, after a long day with all the sightseeing that Normandy has to offer, to be able to return ‘home’ to the peace and tranquillity of SIXTIES, where you will probably be greeted by the owners 2 very sweet dogs, and can see a couple of horses and a donkey in the adjacent field. Breakfast was included, just the two of us in the spacious dining room; we felt like the duke and the duchess ! fresh pastries, fresh bread, excellent coffee & we were offered yoghurts & juice. This is not an ‘American’ or English breakfast’ but very good indeed ‘continental’. Apparently there had been a chateau on the site, but it was bombed during the war.. thereafter this building was created & renovated with impeccable taste and kept spotlessly clean throughout. Just a couple of things to mention; there are not many toiletries in the bathroom, so you might want to take your own hair conditioner etc. There are no restaurants within walking distance but this is easy to overcome, as mentioned above. We would love to return there one day !

The location is very close to Bayeux (5km)and also close to Arromanches and the beaches. Nevertheless the estate lies by its own, away from any traffic and noise, all by itself in a very peaceful and scenic area surrounded by fields, meadows and the typical hedgerows of Normandy. The buildings have been fully restored and used to be a huge farm with a cheese production. Some works and finetuning is still ongoing, the new owners opened just a month ago.(05/2023) The breakfast was very good and rich with local food. The owners are very helpful and friendly.

Its less a hotel than a couples retreat, in the best way possible. Huge rooms with great facilities, white tablecloth restaurant downstairs. Massive grounds to wander around. In the evenings we availed ourselves of the sauna facilities followed by a spa (onsite shower first though). Its all outside surrounded by nature and quite private. Its not just quiet, its peaceful. The staff are engaging, friendly, spoke great English (making up for our poor French). Remarkbly good value. We felt very special , what a great way to finish up our 3 weeks in France.

The location is excellent within a 5 minute walk into the centre of Bayeux where you can find many restaurants. One tip is that it’s preferable to pre-book your restaurant evening meals as there are more tourists than dining spaces, and you could be disappointed. Carole, the host at Clos de Bellefontaine kindly provided us with a list of possible restaurants before we arrived. Wonderful accommodation, breakfast with freshly cooked cake/crumble and so much more was absolutely superb, and Carole was charming and so helpful. Would definitely recommend this as an outstanding place to stay and excellent location for visiting the WW2 memorials.

The breakfast was delicious! Diane, the proprietor, was very knowledgeable about the area and was eager to share the information.

Clean, private, beautiful gardens. Breakfast was superb each day and our host Pascal was very professional and friendly.
