Phenomenal stay! The staff was so friendly and professional. The views are one of the best I’ve ever seen! The onsen views are breathtaking. We also booked the private bath and it was perfect! We only had traditional breakfast and it was divine. We loved every minute of our stay here! We’ll definitely be back! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Loved our time at Matsushima Koumura! The staff were so lovely and the room was very nice. The Onsen was amazing too! The owners even drove us to the train station after we checked out!

Lovely property in Matsushima. Exceptional panoramic views over the Matsushima Bay from many of the rooms (room-wide windows). Comfortable and clean rooms, lovely main dining area and multiple other restaurants - and a huge lobby with floor to ceiling windows and a plenty of seats to admire the bay from. Nice gardens around the hotel and a very practical and sizeable grocery/souvenirs shop in the hotel lobby. Relaxed type of a hotel, with an onsen and yukatas (included in the room) being worn casually all through the hotel. Free and comfortable regular shuttle bus connection to Matsushimakaigan JR station. Otherwise, just a 15 mins walk from the station (mind though, partially uphill) and 20 mins walking to the central pier for the ferries. Lovely island with interesting historical shinto artifacts just opposite and 10 mins walking from the hotel. Wide buffet choice, esp. seafood. Very nice receptionists and restaurant personnel, who do their best to make the guests feel comfortable and take the extra mile with translations, to reduce the language barrier. Thank you !

Everything is amazing. It is expensive, but you get what you pay. I recommend staying for at least 2 nights. I stayed for only one night, and I think I could have enjoyed more (like the gardens and the free rental bike service) if I had more time. Having said that,I thoroughly enjoyed my bedroom, the lounge, restaurant, the baths. The free all you can eat ice cream in the lounge was also a positive surprise.

From checking in to checking out the process was excellent. All relevant information was provided verbal and written on a hotel brochure in English and Japanese. Buffet breakfast and dinner were included in the price and buffets were very good. Location from Takenouchi station was about 800 metres from the hotel. The onsen was very good. There was welcoming drinks 🍸 from 1400hrs to 2300hrs. In the morning there was soft drinks and coffee. The area was very quiet and peaceful. The hotel did provide a shuttle service to the Matsushima station at certain times.

Loved this house, it was spotless, comfy and well equipped with everything we needed. The location was great, right next to the train station and a great supermarket only a few mins away. When Google maps took us the wrong way a neighbour helped us with directing to the house and parking.

The owner of this hotel was one of the kindest people I met in all my travels. He let me check in early (so nice), but it didn't stop there. The next day, he drove me to the ferry so that I could go to the cat island (Tashirojima) AND THEN came back at the end of the day with my luggage and drove me to the train station. THERE'S MORE: I met two other travelers on the island and when the owner saw they didn't have a way to the train station, also had them ride along. True, true kindness. The only downside thing to say is that this hotel is not super close to the ferry/downtown, but it is right by a train station, so it is easy to get to from the JR. I don't mind walking, so my first day there I didn't have an issue getting to the downtown via walking. Also, if you love cats like I do, this place is for you-- as the space next to the hotel has all the owner's cats, who are just the sweetest, cutest babies. The room was comfortable and met all my needs.
