Three points I would like to highlight in particular: Friendliness of each and every team member. They really want you to have a great time! Very cozy and comfortable lounge areas where you can hang out before or after your activities. The staff was AMAZING, if you have the chance to talk to Ruth from Bristol, you will be utterly delighted! I was surprised that even as a hostel they left you nice robes and had house keeping tidy up daily. Welcoming staff and the fact you change from boots to slippers makes it feel like home. Should we return to Svalbard the Funken will be our first and only choice. Due to maintenance work, the hostel was closed, but I was contacted, and my stay was upgraded for free to Funken Lodge hotel, which is much more expensive and luxurious.
