Has a peculiar ambience but comfortable enough for the one night stay. Be mindful that the Receptionist may not be local so you’ll have to find out information about the facilities or area on your own or elsewhere. Friendly, quiet, private enough, clean, safe. It is a backpackers/hostel so don’t expect a five star treatment.

Amazing accommodation. We have travelled around the South Island for the last two weeks in seven different apartments and this property is by far the best. The attention to detail, from the large fluffy towels, beautiful bedding, three types of breakfast cereal and quality coffee was outstanding. The location was quiet and the uninterrupted view of the Tasman was so beautiful. We felt like we were in a five star hotel.

We loved everything, friendly host, location, rooms where so much more then expected, like a 5 Star hotel and very accommodating right down to dietary requirements, very, very impressed and glad we booked. Highly recommend, thank you very much.

The location is superb. You can't beat the ocean view at this hotel. Luxury comfort, and well serviced. The restaurant is reliable and serves good food. A regular hotel for us.

The new rooms We’re fine but not the 5 star advertised

Stunning Gardens! The lantern lights that lit up in the evenings around the gardens was beautiful. Our 11yr old always escaped in the Den to play darts. Great selection of board games, ring toss & a trampoline kept him busy which was great. The Wifi coverage was 💯 times better than the fancy 5 star hotels 😊

DECOR WAS OUTSTANDING - SUCH AN INCREDIBLE PLACE - ONE OF THE BEST THINGS WE HAVE EVER DONE STAYING THERE - WORLD CLASS ACCOMODATION IN OUR EYES. THE DETAIL AND THOUGHT GONE INTO THE OLD FIRE STATION IS JUST SUPERB.

This is reviewed for Forest Retreat Hotel as I was moved there due to a renovation at the originally booked hotel. The service and hotel is really excellent. It is a 5 star hotel

I know this is a straight five star review but honestly the proprietors have put together an excellent accommodation option in a beautiful town.
