There’s nothing like this place! It really is like camping in the sky. Comfortable tent very cosy, plenty of privacy, great bathroom facilities, incredible food, and warm vibes! The host did everything to make sure I was comfortable. I loved the location, but it does require some scenic walking along the rail track to get there - the tuk tuk can’t take you all the way. I would recommend walking from the Ella train station along the tracks so you don’t need a tuk tuk at all - it’s only 15 min walk - and it’s safe, many locals walk along it, you will hear any incoming train for a long time before you see it. The lovely host helped me carry my bags along the track. Easy walking distance from Ella town too. A really unique must-do experience. And it’s only a 10 min walk to the 9 arch bridge!

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and care. The food was absolutely delicious—local, fresh, and full of flavor. Every meal felt like a true taste of the region. The host was incredibly attentive and reachable 24/7. Even when there was a miscommunication about our guide’s departure time, I was able to reach them at 5:30 AM, and they immediately helped us sort things out. That level of dedication made our stay feel effortless. The tent and accommodations were spotless, offering the most breathtaking view I’ve ever experienced from a tent. We had a direct view of the waterfall, which we later visited and even stood on top of—an unforgettable moment. While the stay may feel a bit more expensive, it’s worth every penny if you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime, comfortable experience in nature. One of the highlights was hiking to Ella Rock early in the morning. The hotel has a backroute to the trail, and their guide took us along with so much care—helping us over rocks and steps while letting us go at our own pace. It made the hike feel safe, enjoyable, and truly special. The people here are genuinely warm and hospitable. Getting to Ella town was easy, as the hotel arranged tuk-tuks at very reasonable prices whenever we needed. They also organized a seamless pickup from the train station, making our journey stress-free. If you’re looking for a perfect blend of adventure, comfort, and incredible hospitality, this place is a must-visit!

Tunnel gap homestay is a big highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. Very close walking distance to restaurants & shops in Ella. Comfy & clean. Sudha was an amazing attentive host & cooked us the most delicious breakfast. She had a couple of lovely cute kittens to cuddle too! Highly recommend!!

The photos that are on the page of the location and views do not do the place justice at all! The real life location is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been in my life. Wake up and have a coffee whilst looking at that was breath taking. It also felt as if we were staying in a real life studio ghibly house the way the building are built into the cliff is amazing.

Outstanding service and kind staff. Always reachable within minutes. We were able to stay longer in our room because it was raining a lot. The location is right between Ella and Wellawaya. We recommend a scooter to get around (but be prepared for mountains). We stayed in the treehouse, totales recommend it
