The private onsen in the guesthouse were amazing, especially the outdoor one. Right on the Kumano Kodo. 3 min from bus stop. The Bento boxes for dinner were varied and tasty. The room was so comfortable and warm. Right next to the world UNESCO onsen which is a cool experience.

Very cozy spot on the river bank. Ease of access to kumano kodo trail. We did the Hongu loop trail leaving from here, hiking to Hongu-taisha, then bus to Yunomine Onsen, and then hike the rest of the loop from there. Awesome experience!

I was so fortunate to choose Guesthouse Yui to spend over a week doing Kumano Kodo and stay for Christmas. I used it as a base to walk the Nakahechi route, catching the bus to/from the trail each day, as required. Staying at Guesthouse Yui made all this much easier and more enjoyable. The owner-operator Sanae-san is such a welcoming and caring host. She made my stay like a home-away-from-home. I had the tatami room nearest the entrance which was spacious, clean and warm. I made use of the common area for writing, emailing, watching TV. I was fortunate to be there during a slower time which made it not so busy, apparently. Regardless, Sanae-san put on a hot pot for 4 of us guests one night which was superb. The shower/bath facilities at the guesthouse are very good but I didn't use these much as there is an excellent community public bath a 5 minute walk away (and only 200 yen!). Mad if you don't use it. Kumano Hongo Taisha bus stop and the "town centre" is a 5 minute walk away. Here the dining options are good but very few. Sanae provides full use of the kitchen with stove, rice cooker, microwave etc if you want to cook. She also provides basic items such as beer, packet rice etc to purchase. I highly recommend Iwatani-san's Ramen restaurant on Monday and Tuesday nights, and Miyazushi the other nights.

Right next to the supermarket so we could get ingredients for dinner and breakfast. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook. Rooms have their own sinks which was a bonus. The room stayed very warm for winter. Really nice views and close to other sightseeing places.

Nonagase guest house is exquisite. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. The accommodation itself is incredible, a historic residence that has been very beautifully restored in the Japanese style. What made our stay truly special though was Hitomi, the manager of the guest house. Her warm, friendly welcome made us feel at home straight away. Hitomi organised luggage transfer for our next day of hiking so we didn't have to carry our big backpacks. We had the most wonderful 6 course dinner that night where Hitomi carefully explained all the local produce and the dishes being served. Thank you Hitomi, you made our stay in Chikatsuyu so very memorable, it will be one of the highlights of our Japan trip, we feel lucky to have been able to stay with you 😊 Also important to know... Nonagase guest house has a really nice beer garden out the back where you can enjoy local craft beers and produce in a very relaxed atmosphere 😊

Such a lovely host! We were greeted with tea after a long day hiking. The dinner and breakfast prepared for us was such an amazing feast. Really close to the bus stop and from the general kumano trail. The room was modern, bright, and cosy. Very quiet and peaceful too. Would highly recommend

It felt so so good to arrive here after the walk from takijiri. It felt like heaven lol! It has all that you need, they really thought everything. So convenient, so clean, so comfortable. I would absolutely recommend ! Just next to it is a supermarket and some restaurants. I would come back if I can. Too bad we only stayed one night.
