Old traditional house. A charming house, beautiful and in a very quiet area. Fresh air and pure water. Hiro, the host, and his assistant Marie (a small gentle dog) are very kind. Hiro gave us some nice tips and restaurant recommendations. We felt right at home.

We stayed there during our roadtrip through Japan and eventhough the house looked bit in a state from the outside, inside it is fully renovated and comfy with many electrical gadgets (i like the move operated garbage bin, hehe). We could park right in front of the house. It's a good starting point for exploring Nikko National Park. Also the owner is super helpful and I coudl feel he really feels invested in providing super care. Would love to return one day for sure!

Mariko's kindness is absolutely outstanding, even for Japanese standards. She is one of the best, if not the best host we have ever had the luck to meet. She even prepared a delicious breakfast for us and drove us to the train station because we were in a bit of a hurry. The lodging is simple yet lovely, cozy, in a great location and super clean. So top choice, you won't regret it!

The owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home. Cooked us a delicious breakfast even though it wasn’t included in the price and drove us to the station (only 5 minutes walking) so we could definitely catch the bus/train. Very clean house, comfortable futon beds and working air conditioning. All in all we had a fantastic stay at an authentic Japanese home and can only recommend Arai house. If we ever have the chance to come back to Nikko we would definitely stay here again

Awesome stay! Satoshi and Elizabeth were warm and wonderful hosts. The food cooked by Satoshi (very last minute) was also spectacular, and the dessert (home made ice-cream made by Satoshi) was amazing. The room was warm and clean and there was a very nice Kotatsu to use. The outdoor Onsen was also spectacular and heated perfectly! Definitely will stay again and highly recommend for everyone to try!

This place feels like home. Kumiko helped me find places to eat vegetarian, brought me to the local English club, upgraded me to a solo room as I was the only female traveller in the dorm, and spent time with us playing games. The guesthouse is also super conveniently located diagonally from the station, but there is no noise. A super nice experience !

About a 20-minute walk from the Nikko shrines, Annex Turtle Hotori-An is situated next to the Daiya river and green forests. It features hot spring baths with river views.

The location was really convenient. Also the onsen was great for relaxing after a long day.
