Owner is welcoming and helpful. Everywhere in the house is clean. Room is comfortable. Very homey hostel. Not really walkable during winter but free pick-up from Iiyama station is available.

The hosts were perfect! I’ve never experienced the type of quality service they provided. So accomodating, helpful, and all round good people. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted at the door. They immediately carried our bags in (and mind you, they were quite large suitcases), washed and dried all the wheels off the bags, and carried them up the stairs to our room. We were then served freshly cut apples and coffee. We also had a tour around the property to know where everything was. As you go around the place, you’ll notice small things they provided to ensure their guests had what they needed. Even though it had a shared bathroom and toilet, they made sure you had what you needed everywhere - slippers, bins, paper towels, paper cups at the sink etc. you don’t notice these things until they’re missing. We had A LOT of questions generally about being in Japan and the hosts helped as much as they could. The ski lifts and rental shops are also a few doors down. Such a convenient spot. Hands down would return to this place.

Located just steps away from the main gondola station in Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort, Schanze Nozawa is cosy accommodation with Japanese-style rooms and friendly multi-lingual staff.

Where can I begin - what a wonderful stay! Our room on the second floor was very cosy. We enjoyed the traditional futon beds and felt comfortable and warm thanks to the heater. The shared bathrooms were clean and well equipped, and we never had issues with the other guests. The tea and coffee provided in the communal area was a nice touch and the home made breakfast was fantastic (and reasonably priced!). The hotel is located a minute walk away from the ski rental shop and main gondola, making it very convenient to get out on the slopes. It is also just a short walk down to all of the great bars, restaurants and public onsen that the town has to offer. Finally, a massive shout out to all of the team working at Schanze Nozawa. They have curated a space that truly felt like home and went above and beyond to help us make the most of our stay. They even organised a small birthday surprise which was the highlight of our stay!

Kusatsu KOTODAMA is a Japanese-style guest house that is located just a 4-minute walk away from Kustatsu Onsen Bus Terminal. The property is also a 10-minute walk from Yubatake hot springs field.

Best experience in Kusatsu. Very affordable guesthouse and friendly owner. She helped me out with what to do in town when I got there. The guest house is 5-mins walk from the bus station so it's super convenient. I experienced staying in a traditional tatami house, super clean room and good facilities. The owner is very polite and supportive during my stay. Thanks so much for the hospitality and I hope to go back one day.

Liked the tatami style of the place! Looks newly refurbished and very clean. Facilities are complete but bear in mind there is no shower/bath facilities. We went for the Ohtaki No Yu Onsen and showered there, so this was not an isssue. Toilets are shared but this is not an issue too as there weren't many ppl staying at the ryokan. Parking is walkable, only 50metres away. Very value for money!!

The first thing to say is that the staff is really friendly and helpful. The location is great, at the heart of the resort, just a couple of minutes walk from the ski slopes. The rooms are simple and comfortable and the breakfast was very tasty. The bath downstairs is spatious and very pleasant and the facilities for skying are very good, with even a drying room for ski gear! It was a great stay!
