An incredibly charming family welcomed us, and we immediately took them to heart... and I believe they did the same with us. Even though we speak only a few words of Spanish and they don't speak English, we got along well. Whenever we needed help or had questions, they were immediately ready and incredibly hospitable. Here, you live together and get to see what the "local life" is like. There's a communal kitchen for guests, a rooftop terrace for relaxing, and even a water refill station. The rooms are simple and functional. Another plus is that in the morning, you can hear a wonderful concert of birds upon waking up; the jungle is right next door. Simply marvelous, we felt very comfortable here and would come back anytime.

We have found our personal paradise in this enchanted place by the lagoon. The water is incredible. It actually has several shades from turquoise to dark blue and is crystal clear. Right by the water in the shade under the trees, it is a wonderful place to relax even when the temperatures in Bacalar are hot. The area around the huts is completely unspoiled and far away from the noise of the road. If you're traveling by bus like we were, it's a 20-minute cab ride from Bacalar (there's no Uber). Ernesto and Camilla were excellent hosts. As we had no car Ernesto and family drove us all the way into Bacalar for supplies on more than one occasion... We enjoyed the (covered) outdoor shared kitchen immensely. We had all the necessary kitchen supplies to make lunches and dinners plus it was a great way to meet the other guests staying in the huts next to ours. And lastly there are 2 excellent kayaks to use on the lagoon...

We had a great time in Bacalar and Casa Umay. Location is superb, the kitchen is well equipped, beds are very comfortable and the hammocks are perfect to relax in after a day in the laguna. Definitely recommend this place.

The place is really nice, comfortable, bit distant from centre (like 12 mins) but really near the ADO and collectivo stop is only like 1 minute away :)

Victor was very kind and always available. It is a simple and essential dwelling. The AC is great as the mosquito net. The kitchen comes with all you may need including coffee, oil, and salt. The morning fresh fruits the household provides makes it even more pleasant.

She took her time to explain us everything about the area and the hostel - cozy hostel with nice garden, because it's small you make friends super easy. - we slept in tent and it was comfy and nice to be in nature. - the rooftop is nice with hammocks - close to busstop and city center - bathrooms nice!

I liked the location and the view. My partner liked the air con. You're right at the lagoon, and have the view from the bed (the sunrise is a bit hidden by the trees), but it's still amazing to wake up to it at the lagoon and step onto the balcony in the morning. Compared to other place's prices, it's really good value. For the same price or more in other places around, you get a room in the back without a view. So just for the view and location I would book the place again. It's outside of bacalar, so it's quiet, but it's only 7 minutes drive to all the places in bacalar. We had some rain while we stayed, so couldn't be in the lagoon much, so we asked for a late check out, which was amazing, so we could go for a little swim in the morning before we left, which we really appreciated. We loved the palapa over the pier, it's small, and there is just space for a family at a time, but we were lucky that there were not many houses booked, while we stayed.

It's rustic and if you like it simple you'll like it. Has all you need although the kitchen is super small. But the location is amazing, 1 min from the lagoon

The room was big with 2 very comfy double beds. Aircon worked perfect. had a smart tv in the room which had Netflix on it (not that you’d spend much time in the room) location perfect. it’s more of a guesthouse and there’s no signage but the taxi driver knew exactly where it was from the address.
