Featuring a garden and views of garden, Azukiya is a recently renovated guest house located in Kyoto, 700 metres from Shoren-in Temple. A hot tub and a bicycle rental service are available for guests. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen, full-day security and currency exchange for guests. Staying there was a delight The room looked exactly like on the pictures except it felt bigger and really cosy. The bathroom was perfect, very clean and honestly quite spacious when compared to other accommodations in Japan. It really felt like having a traditional Japanese room but with all the comfort of modern times. We were also worried to be cold coming in November but the place had definitely enough heating to keep the room warm if needed. Breakfast, japanese or western style (still with a Japanese touch) was delicious, very filling and everytime different. The location was overall very nice as the subway station is mere minutes away and Gion area isn't too far while other areas north of Kyoto are also in walkable distance. Kitamura-san was just the cherry on the cake as she was extremely helpful, welcoming and caring. It felt wrong to leave the place.

It was such a special experience, it felt authentic and personal. We loved the incredible breakfasts, and the notes with tea and snacks when we returned at the end of the day. It was so warm and cosy, and so lovely to be able to look at a pretty garden in the middle of a busy city. The location was great too - there is so much within walking distance.

The hosts are very friendly and helpful, giving us useful advice on how to move around the town. Emiko speaks very good English. The hotel room looks just like in the photos posted on their website, and everything is very clean. The breakfast was fresh and slightly different each morning. The hotel is also well placed, just a few minutes walking from the bus station and the Keihan train Line (which reaches many touristic objectives in the city and up to Osaka).

A perfect place for a Kyoto visit if you don't want to be around the tourist masses. The place is newly renovated and just thought out well, longest sleeps I had in Amy of my accommodations so far. The host (Tony) is a really nice guy with a lot of knowledge about the area and loves to talk and give recommendations.
