I went to Gelsenkirchen for the Taylor Swift concert with my sister and we needed a place to stay the night and it was perfect. The place was about 12 minutes from Essen Hbf and the connections were pretty good. The rooms were comfortable and clean :)

Super easy check--in and a fabulous host. Just a short walk into town where there are plenty of lovely little pubs and restaurants. Fabulous breakfast with a lot of choice and regular refills. Would definitely recommend.

Checking in was done via a phone call for a key safe so never met any staff but the lady on the phone was pleasant. The room itself was wow. I wasn't expecting a full apartment but that's what it was and it was great. Plenty of space and comfy beds. Good amenities inside with kettle, coffee percolator and microwave. Even a little roof top area.

This family-run hotel is in a quiet side street, between Essen Main Station and the exhibition centre. It offers a daily buffet breakfast and good public transport connections.

Nice apartments, everything is cozy, Wi-Fi works well, the beds are comfortable, it’s quiet, it would be nice to also have a microwave because I didn’t see a cafe around within walking distance and on Sunday the shops are closed, there’s nowhere to heat up the same ready-made food if you buy it
