this is a true gem of a guest house. it’s run by warm and conscientious owners who really understand how make the experience memorable. small touches go a long way, including the lovely communal spaces and gardens. the rooms are spotless and the location great. our family found this place a nice respite from a busy aswan.

JJ guesthouse is a wonderfull place. The all family is welcoming, and always smiling. You will feel like home. The rooms are spacious, fully equiped (AC, fridge etc) and beds are very confortable. The house is perfectly located with an amazing rooftop with Nile view. On the rooftop the best chef of Aswan will take care of you and served you delicious breakfast. We could wash our clothes here, wich was usefull. Do not look for another place, book here and you wont regret it. We were really lucky to be there and we hope we will come back one day. Thank you again JJ for everything.

It’s easy to explore local attractions, yet the serene setting allows for a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The proximity to the Nile and the nearby villages adds to the charm, offering stunning views and opportunities to immerse in the local lifestyle. The food at King Mena Nubian Guesthouse is another highlight. Each meal was freshly prepared, showcasing authentic Nubian flavors that were both hearty and delicious. Dining here felt more like sharing a meal with friends than eating at a guesthouse—every dish was served with care and generosity. One of the best aspects of our stay was how connected we felt to the local community. The village’s vibrant culture and the warmth of its people made every interaction memorable. Whether we were strolling through the Elephantine Island, or chatting with the Nubians, there was a constant feeling of being welcomed and embraced. We even had the honor of attending a Nubian wedding! If you’re looking for a place that combines comfort, genuine hospitality, and cultural immersion, Basmatic Nubian Guesthouse is a perfect choice. We left not only with beautiful memories of the place but also with a deep appreciation for the Nubian people and their rich traditions.

A great laid back place to stay on the West Bank, close to the public ferry and the tombs of the nobles. The facilities are new and clean. The owners and his family are super hospitable. We also ordered lunch which was delicious. No regretting we have chosen the place and we will definitely come back.

We loved our stay. Mr abu is a good man and did everything to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Breakfast is also very nice. The stuffed omelette was really tasteful. The pick up and drop from the dock is a super manner to reach the place. Also the location is perfect for staying in aswan.

    Arranged pickup for us from the airport at a late hour and helped us get on a boat to the island without any problems Easy access to major sites, had great contacts for drivers and boat tours at reasonable prices. Next to a family owned restaurant called King Jamaica, which offered great Nile sunset views and had a very interesting mixed clientele both locals and tourists

    Bassam was a great host, no pressure or hassle like so common in Egypt; booked several tours for us at a fair price. The upstairs terrace was lovely, even though it was hot.

    I’m convinced this is the best place to stay in Aswan. It might be a little bit hard to find in the island, but there were locals who kindly showed me the way upon my arrival. There’s a beautiful garden, the staff is friendly and the room is very nice. The breakfast they serve is superb and you can also buy water and soda’s for a good price instead of having to go to a shop. Extra points for having the goodest dog in Aswan.

    The experience is unmatched. First homestay and very memorable. Family friendly atmosphere. Comfy room and bathrooms. Trip along the Nile to Philae Temple. Eating dinner together was special. Really tasty food. Relaxing in the evening and listening to locals play music. Being able to absorb the Nubian culture was special.

    Bassam was a great host. The effort he has put into the roof area was really amazing, such a nice space to hang out and chat with him and other travellers. Showers were hot, AC was great. It was nice to stay on the West Bank and use the ferry over to the main city on the East Bank with all the locals. Very cheap and easy, but is something to be aware of. Great WiFi in the rooftop area, plenty of spaces there to chill out.
