As a first-time solo traveler who was quite anxious, I was amazed at how the environment instantly put me at ease. They were also so helpful in planning my time/transportation in Nanto, making my experience even more enjoyable and stress free. I felt so comfortable and cozy that I don’t even remember falling asleep after my long day of exploring :) The food was also absolutely delicious, and I was genuinely sad to leave.

The 1-star guest house features garden views and is 49 km from Kenrokuen Garden. The guest house has family rooms. The inn-keeper, Satoe, is the absolute kindest, sweetest host you could ask for. She made us incredibly welcome and comfortable (despite rolling in with two kids and a baby!) and even brought sparklers and small fireworks for the girls to play with one night. The area surrounding is beautiful, including a little restaurant we could walk to and beautiful villages and a lovely onsen within a short drive. The location is great for visiting this region, and even farther afield destinations, like Kanazawa on the north coast, felt quite accessible from here by car.

Free WiFi is available throughout the property and Toyama Station is 17 km away. My stay at Yanafu was truly delightful. The Japanese house, with its spacious 120 m², is very welcoming, comfortable, and beautifully designed with a natural and sustainable style. Bright, full of light, and featuring restored wood details, it also has a vintage HiFi stereo system that sounds absolutely wonderful. The bathroom was spacious with two individual showers, and the bedroom was perfectly quiet, equipped with a brand-new air conditioner. The host was very kind and friendly—she recommended all the wonderful places I visited nearby. Thanks to her advice, I enjoyed a fantastic restaurant just 12 minutes away on foot, where a talented chef served exquisite dishes in a minimalist setting with a table overlooking a zen garden, all at a very reasonable price. On my way back, I followed her recommendation to stop at a cocktail bar 8 minutes from the house, walking along the illuminated riverside. The place was like stepping into a movie set—the interior design was a true work of art, with more than 80 bourbons and an extensive selection of cocktails. The next morning, following her guidance again, I had breakfast in a café walking only 6 minutes, a former fisherman’s warehouse beautifully renovated. They served excellent coffee, cakes, and sandwiches—the perfect spot to start the day or work with a laptop. In summary, my stay at Yanafu was wonderful. The 120 m² house is warm and cozy, and with the host’s thoughtful recommendations, I could enjoy unique and unforgettable places within walking distance. Ideal for families, groups, and also for romantic couples, thanks to the beautiful surroundings. I will definitely return often.

Beautiful little house, very spacious for two people and good value. Our host Mizuho was extremely helpful with information, leaving us little surprise snacks and even driving us to Toyama station when we checked out. The house is 15-20 minutes way from the main cbd/Toyama Station, so you need to get a local bus if you don’t have a car. But there are helpful instructions at the property, and we found it a bit of an adventure to catch the bus. Also you get lovely views of the mountains when walking in the neighbourhood, which you don’t get in the cbd. Also recommend the Yakatori restaurant near the house. Cosy vibe and delicious food.

She met us at the train station Etchu-Yatsuo, took me to the grocery store for my 3-night stay (we cooked breakfast 3 mornings and dinner 2 nights), and invited us to their home for an afternoon snack and concert! She speaks good English and is very welcoming and caring. There was so much snow one morning that they lit a fire in the wood stove for us. It was truly a memorable stay and we hope to be back in Toyama soon!
