A bit hard to find, behind some shops and apartments, you have to go under the building through, well, a short tunnel really. Maps is fairly accurate so just look for a gap in the building. On the other side is an old house which is the Nobel Regency which should have seemed "hemmed in" by the apartments, but it wasn't as it is set in lovely gardens with many plants.
It's an old house with old furniture, retro but very comfortable. Multiple common areas both inside and outside. I had a very big room with a huge bathroom which was original to the house and dated, a bit of a time-warp really, but very clean and perfectly comfortable. Good a/c and fan. Hot water and good water pressure. Comfortable bed.
I was hot and tired from my motorbike journey and the staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. They bought me a welcome drink. After I had showered, I asked for tea and a snack, and they bought me fruit and then tea and cake on the verandah. Nothing was too much trouble. I sat and read a book and they kept checking that I was comfortable and had everything that I wanted.
I did notice that one of the rooms was small because they had added an en-suite bathroom in a sort of prefabricated unit inside the room. That seemed a bit unusual. But I suppose it is perfectly functional. It is an inexpensive place to stay.
Very good Sri Lankan curries and rice dinner, fruit and dessert. Breakfast was also very good.
This was a perfect choice for me. I didn't explore the town as I was only on a stopover for one night, and I left early the next morning. It was very comfortable with good food and fantastic hosts.
Tanamalwila

The property features a garden, terrace and parking on-site among other facilities. There is a private entrance at the guest house for the convenience of those who stay. The guest house features family rooms. Big room and bathroom with space to eat (so we could eat in our room instead of the restaurant upstairs, which was very cute tho...). Best wifi we had during our trip. Great location for Lunugamvehera Safari (we did not book it with them, but it seemed like we could because they also had a safari jeep). The owner speaks dutch and is very nice! We arranged a well priced tuktuk with her, that took us to Dickwella at 7 pm after our safari (about 2.30-3h drive). We enjoyed our stay and definitly recommend when visiting the Lunugamvehera side of Yala national park. Glad there was a restaurant in the hotel, because there did not seem to be much in the area (we didn't mind tho, we were only here for the safari :))

The property features quiet street views and is 13 km from Buduruwagala Temple and 20 km from Ella Rock. The accommodation provides airport transfers, while a bicycle rental service is also available. We, my girlfriend and I, have experienced our stay as a wonderful journey. When we arrived, we were faced with a closed gate, but within seconds the owner arrived. After checking in, we entered the room – perfect! A nice big bed, a clean and spacious bathroom, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and everything you could need! After having a little chat, the hotel owner asked about our plans. We mentioned that we came for the nature and tranquility, and without hesitation, he offered to show us around the area. This was the start of an experience we will never forget. 🙏 First, we went to a small waterfall, very local with no tourists – just some local youngsters hanging out who even offered us a beer. Then he took us to Diyaluma Falls – what a massive waterfall that was! He offered us lunch, which he had made himself! A sandwich we’ll never forget; it was incredibly delicious. Next, we visited Buduruwagala Rock Carvings, where the owner introduced us to Buddhism. The place was surrounded by nature – trees, plants, birds – pure enjoyment. We thought we were heading back to the hotel, but nothing could be further from the truth. We visited real monks, where we received blessings and a white bracelet from an elderly monk. They also offered us boiled corn – so tasty! After the visit, we continued back to the hotel. On the way, we ran into a friend of the owner, who invited us to their home. When we arrived, the whole family was there to meet us. What kind and friendly people! They offered us tea and chocolate biscuits, and my girlfriend even received a gift! It gave us such a happy feeling, something we will cherish forever. ❤️ Then it was time to head back to the hotel – or so we thought. Instead, we went elephant spotting! Yes, you read that right – real wild elephants! It got quite late, but we spotted several wild animals, including both a male and female elephant. This, too, will stay with us forever.

We had a wonderful stay! Our host showed us the sugar cane plantation, went on a little safari with us, spoiled our two little boys with sugar cane and river adventures and we couldn't have imagined a better stop on our road trip through Sri Lanka! The food was delicious, the service too and the host family was super friendly! Thank you for everything! We'll be happy to come back!
Great host. Took us through their spice trail and cinnamon processing plant which was a great experience!
What an amazing experience and such a beautiful Homestay one of the highlights in our Sr Lanka Tour. Host and his family very welcoming with excellent food and service. Room very clean and comfortable. Great knowledge of the area and its wildlife.
The host family is very nice. The young daughter speak a very good english and looks eager to train it and talk about their culture and traditions). The food I had was really good and they also greeted me with a fresh welcome juice. They let me help and Watch the dinner making and it was very pleasant. The rooms are big, very clean and Probably recently renewed (the a/c system seemed pretty new). The area is out of the city centre, but it is ist to get there in 20 minutes by walk.
The Perfect home stay, a wonderful and loving family. We spent two nights at this calming place. The host made us feel safe and welcomed, a lovely experience. We had a super fun evening with her beautiful daughter and would love come back any time❤️ Best wishes Marie and Sofia from Germany
Amazing clean home stay located in a peaceful village nearby a lake. Run by some really kind staff who are extremely accommodating! They are able to provide everything you need and cook tasty meals upon request. Also have options to see wild elephants, visit local village, or go on a boat ride. I injured my knee before arriving and they also took me to see a special Ayurvedic doctor. Would absolutely stay again!
Bhagya was the perfect host. His accommodation is ideal for those who like a genuine home stay in a beautiful natural environment. The home cooked food from his mum was excellent. Bhagya looked after us and showed us around the local area. We also booked a safari into Yala national park with Bhagya and were very lucky to see lots of wild life including 2 leopards- thanks to his keen eyesight. Over all an excellent 3 night stay.
Lovely peaceful cabin near the national park. Bhagya is a great host and the accommodation is ideal. The vain is private and comes with kitchenette loaded with snacks and cold drinks (even beer) and a washing machine for your clothes! The location is next to the national park, making it perfect for a safari trip. The food prepared by Bhagya’s mum is some of the best I’ve had in a two week trip in Sri Lanka!
I really liked the cold beers in the fridge when I got back from an awesome safari with Bhagya, also I loved being able to make coffee and tea anytime, also Bhagya’s mum makes awesome Sri Lankan dinners, loved the shower room , basically a great professional homestay.
