I loved literally everything. I have stayed in many hostels and guesthouses around the world in many continents, but this one really stands out. It is probably my favourite place I have ever been to. If this place is available, BOOK IT NOW! Amazing location in the heart of the Cultural centre, fantastic people, warm and social hosts as well as special guests. If the reason for your visit is to experience the culture of Salvador with all its amazing music, dance and cuisine, there really is no better place for you to stay at than Tamboleiros: located right in the heart of Pelourinho, close to where all the magic happens (e.g. 1min away from the famous Bar do Neuzão), walking distance to shops, pharmacy, bars, restaurants etc. When it comes to facilities, the hostel has everything you might need: fridge, freezer, washing machine, fully equipped kitchen with a cooker, microwave etc. I never had a single problem with the levels of cleanliness etc. during my stay there either. It’s a simple place, but well equipped, always clean and safe. But it’s not the location or facilities that made my stay at Tamboleiros so special: it’s the wonderful people who work there. From the start, Edu, the owner of the hostel, has been the most welcoming and helpful person a guest could ask for. Whatever question or problem I had, he went above and beyond to make sure I was sorted. This included e.g. showing me the area, taking me to the food market, picking things up from the pharmacy when I was unwell, always offering coffee, sharing food, taking me on trips to nearby beaches or islands alongside other hostel guests. As a solo female traveler, it was very important for me to feel safe and secure and he definitely played a part in that. At the same time, he was never intrusive (which some hostel owners can be) and always respectful of the guests' space. Other employees of the hostel, Rafa and Jack, were wonderful too and contributed to making my stay beyond comfortable and enjoyable. Every day they greeted me with a big smile and willingness to lend a helping hand if needed. All three made me feel so welcomed and included that I ended up extending my stay at Tamboleiros from the initial one week to many more weeks after that. INCREDIBLE & UNFORGETTABLE! I would 100% recommend and go back time and time again!

The volunteers were a nice vibe even though only 1 person in the entire hostel spoke english. You will definitely have a better time socially if you understand portuguese but it's still a nice cute place near the beach and easily accessible to the buses. The breakfast is kind of decent for what you pay, it's tapioca with eggs & a coffee or couscous with cheese and eggs & a coffee.

    Great location - not too far from the beachfront, a few restaurants and supermarkets. As a solo female traveller, the location meant that it also felt safe walking around at night. Hostel is fairly big with open communal areas which allow for socialising! Own kitchen too where a lot of guests cook which is also an added bonus.

    Great location right in front of the beach and by the lighthouse. The promenade is brightly lit at night so very safe, and it's a great people watching spot! The hostel is clean with a cute social area. There are a number of bars and restaurants and supermarkets super close.

    HG13 is probably the best hostel in Salvador! The room was spacious and clean, with fresh linen and towels. The breakfast was amazing and the staff was helpful and lovely. The free caipirinha was delicious. Wifi worked like magic. The location was excellent and reachable by Uber ( before we came, I was told only official taxis can reach the centre) or by foot, really close to all the attractions and museums. I felt really safe and would stay in this hostel again.
