I travelled from Pattaya by train to the main train station in Bangkok. As a 74 year old solo traveler (lady) I spent hours on the internet researching a suitable hostel in Bangkok close to the station. I was impressed with reviews and photos of Noir Café & Hostel and booked a bed in an 8-bed female dormitory – the very first time I have ever stayed in a hostel. I was certainly not disappointed. Although their closing time is 6 pm, they agreed to wait for my arrival at 7 pm. I was warmly welcomed by a lovely young lady, who booked me in smoothly, showed me my bed and the other facilities. I had a bottom bunk (didn’t want to risk climbing up a ladder). I had a thick curtain for privacy, comfy mattress, charging outlet and a security cage under the bed with a lock to house my small suitcase. The bathroom was a few steps away - very clean and it had shower gel and shampoo as advertised. The AC in the room was also welcome and was not too cold as the curtain protected us from any direct cold draft. They operate a café downstairs but unfortunately, I was not able to sample their food (which I read was delicious) because I left at 6:30 am with a taxi to Thonburi train station, from where I was travelling to Kanchanaburi. The owner was extremely helpful and ordered the taxi and waited outside with me to make sure that he found the address and also explained to him in Thai exactly where I needed to go. I was very satisfied indeed with my stay at Noir Café & Hostel and would definitely recommend it. As mentioned, I had never stayed in a hostel anywhere in the world, but if this is an example of what can be offered, I was very satisfied indeed.

Kind host who gave us some really nice tips, free drinking water and icecream. Nice balcony at the waterside to chill out. Our room was everything we needed and the location was really great! Foodtrucks really close and easy to hold a cab to get around Bangkok. Would stay here again!

Breakfast is great, the AC is cold, there's complimentary cold water and coffee! Good, quiet place to rest after a lot of island hopping, with great internet if you need it. Will definitely be returning if I am in Bangkok again.

The Yard is an extremely cozy experience; not something I expected to find in the middle of Bangkok. As the name implies, the buildings are set up around a central courtyard that is absolutely packed with trees, plants, and seating / lounging areas. It definitely feels like an oasis of calm in the middle of the bustling city. The rest of the hostel's concept just reinforces this. There is a drinking water refill station and a cute little board to mark how many plastic bottles were spared a trip to the landfill. The breakfast is both delicious and very sustainably sourced from local farms. Homemade yoghurt? Yes please. The staff is great. Any sensible request, they can help you with and any questions about what to do, where to eat, or what is happening culturally in Bangkok right now, they will tell you about. The private rooms themselves are basic but clean and the AC is more than capable of keeping them at your preferred temperature. The mattresses are hard by Western standards but normal for SEA. The area of Ari is full of great restaurants about a 7 minute walk away. That is also the nearest Sky Train station. If you are wavering on booking a room, do it. This place sells out constantly and I just got lucky that someone else changed their plans.
