Taupo is 40 km from the hostel. We loved our stay at Riverstone Lodge! The lodge was extremely clean, the rooms were sizeable and comfy, and the lodge itself was super cozy. The kitchen had everything you could possibly want - coffee, french press, dishes, oven, microwave, etc. There were tons of games in the common room. The check in and check out process was super easy. The lodge is walking distance to a number of restaurants. Everything was great! We wished we could have stayed longer.

I decided to book the first three nights to rest after catching an illness and I ended up spending five nights there because it was so peaceful and homely; it honestly felt like recuperating at my own house. The room was comfy, warm and clean, the toilets spotless and the showers hot and roomy. The kitchen is modern and really well equipped, especially for such a small place. It had everything and beyond of what I needed. The lounge is super cozy and has a great view of the seaside while the garden is a great place to enjoy a meal in the sun. All of the staff were super friendly and the owner kept on checking how I was feeling which I found really nice. Not to mention the value, which is beyond great for what you get, with a great location and comfortable stay. Overall, it is thanks to Moana Lodge that I'm back on the road so quickly and I'll never forget my time there.

I chose this hotel for the location & somewhere to rest my head before travelling. My expectations weren't very high, but I thought the hotel was great. Very clean & modern. Had a good vibe, The staff member I spoke to was very kind & helpful. Was able to get an early check-in without any hassle. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to others.

Taupo is an absolute mecca for all things outdoors – including hiking the famous Tongariro crossing, trout fishing, skydiving, jet boating, white water rafting, mountain biking and sailing on the Great Lake with the hostel's yacht 'Fearless'. Dorms were really nice, the hammocks and been bags chair were very nice as well. Kitchen was big and very clean, very much enjoyed my time
