Haka House Bay of Islands is a welcoming and stylish hostel located just across from the scenic Paihia wharf, offering cosy, practical accommodations with million-dollar views of the stunning surroundings. The location was prime, though it was a bit difficult out to find the entrance as the hostel and reception aren’t on the ground floor. But it was on the waterfront and smack in the middle of a bunch of restaurants and shops with easy access to the ferry system.

The reception tour desk can book all tours, often with discounts, including cruises and sailing trips to the Bay of Islands and Far North. The lodge also offers a shared kitchen, dining room and indoor outdoor dining with BBQ facilities in the garden patio area. Amazing people, very welcoming staff. Clean and tidy. Wonderful communal areas. One step to the beach! I highly recommend it!!

The Cell Block Backpackers hostel is a refurbished 1960's jailhouse, converted in to colourful accommodation. The property is in a central location, around 400 metres from Town Basin Marina, the main intercity bus stop and Whangarei Art Museum. It is 500 metres from Claphams Clock Museum. Loved that it was unique! Loved the people and the owners, super friendly and everything was easy and accessible, they also had cats so it was nice cuddling up with them especially with me being away from home and missing my own.
