Chalet Maria is a traditional Austrian mountain retreat situated close to Maria Alm and right in the middle of the Hochkönig hiking/ skiing area. It's a perfect place for a summer or winter holiday. The chalet is located at an altitude of 1,000m with breathtaking views of the surrounding Hochkönig valley. Directly from the chalet you can quickly reach several great MTB routes. The Schwarzeckalmbahn starts at the foot of the mountain and takes you deep into the hiking/biking area. The chalet is divided into two identical halves (chalet 1 with sun terrace & chalet 2 with garden) each accommodating up to five people. The sides can be rented together or individually. Each chalet half has a cozy entrance area, two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a large living room with dining area and wood stove, a balcony with a breathtaking view of the Hochkönig and the Steinerne Meer, a toilet and a large bathroom. Chalet 1 (on the left) has a sun terrace at the back of the house, chalet 2 (on the right) has a large, newly done garden for exclusive use.
We, Anne & Onno, love the mountains - summer and winter - and try to spend as much time there as possible. We are passionate skiers, hikers and mountain bikers and always dreamt of having a home in the mountains. We bought Chalet Maria in spring 2021 to use it as a family retreat and also to rent it out to other mountain lovers. We fell in love with this house instantly when we first sat on the balcony, taking in the amazing view onto the Hochkönig and Steinerne Meer and hearing the peaceful murmuring of the valley stream. It’s the perfect place to relax after a day of hiking, biking, skiing in the mountains.
The Hochkönig/ Ski Amadé region is increasingly popular with constant lift and facility upgrades over the past few years, coupled with uncrowded pistes and some eye popping mountain huts. It's an amazing place in the winter or the summer. If you love mountain biking, then the Hochkönig area has lots to offer with new flow trails, pump tracks and a skill area. Or you could take a 20min drive to Leogang to enjoy Austria's largest bike region. During winter, the roads are cleared on a daily basis, but do always pack snow chains as we are in a snow pocket and get a lot more snow than the surrounding areas! Take the last lift of the day and then have a meal at the mountain huts, before skiing down behind the piste bashers... just remember to take a head torch !
