Cape Trib Farm has three generations of my family working and living here. My parents bought the property 45 years ago when it was an old cattle yard. Guinea grass stood nearly 7 foot tall in the paddocks interspersed by barbed wire fencing that has rusted and twisted over the decades. Cape Trib Farm is now a vibrant orchard that produces over 80 different kinds of exotic and rare tropical fruits. It is nestled at the base of Mt Sorrow and has beachfront, virgin rainforest and paddocks of the most divine fruit you will ever taste.
My name is Merran. I moved to Cape Tribulation when I was a child and delighted in exploring the beaches, forests and endless creeks and sea. I moved away from home for my university education, married and had three children. On weekends and holidays we would come back to the farm and enjoy the same things I did when I was a child. My children have also developed a love for the farm and our environment. My parents (in their 70s & 80s wanted to have more freedom to travel and do things so my husband Jeremy and I took on the running and ownership of Cape Trib Farm in 2015. Our sons, Sam and Jordan, have joined us.
The Daintree is the world's oldest rainforest, and Cape Tribulation is known as the place where the Rainforest meets the Reef. It is true. Huge rainforest trees overhang the white sands of the beach. The reef starts at knee deep and you can find all sorts of amazing creatures when you spend some time snorkelling. The mountains rise steeply behind us to the mighty Mount Sorrow that protects this micro climate from hot westerly winds and keeps the rain and moisture trapped in the valley. There are endless things to do at Cape Trib. You can join us for Fruit Tasting at 2pm. You can skim through the upper rainforest canopy on Treetop Adventures. You can reach the reef in just 20 minutes with Ocean Safari and spend the day snorkelling in a majestic hidden world. You can go horse riding, discover little known places with 4WD adventures or spot a croc with Ernie on Cape Tribulation Wilderness Cruises. Perhaps you would like to just walk the many splendid beaches that run into each other, navigate the boardwalks to view life in the inter-tidal zone in a coastal rainforest ... or relax with a massage. So many things to do. So many things to see.
